No. 1 Men's Golf in Fifth at SDSU Tourney

LAKESIDE, Calif. -- The top ranked University of Oregon golf team got off to a slow start and never recovered during the first two rounds of the Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State, posting a 17-over 737 after 36 holes.
Oregon, which has won two of its past three tournaments, trails the host Aztecs (-8) by a whopping 25 strokes heading into Friday's final round, and sat in fifth place in the 16-team field as totals were still being tabulated late Thursday.
Among individuals, Eugene Wong and Jack Dukeminier are tied for 18th at 2-over 146. Wong bounced back from a rare 75 to post a 1-under 71 in the second round, while Dukeminier was steady with a pair of 73s.
Andrew Vijarro had the only other Oregon round under par, opening with a 3-under 69. But a 78 in the afternoon dropped him down to a tie for 23rd at 3-over 147.
Daniel Miernicki (+8, 150), Sean Maekawa (+10, 152) and Isaiah Telles (+12, 154) will look to bounce back over the final 18 holes at Barona Creek Golf Club's lengthy 7,324-yard course.
The third round is scheduled for a 7:30 am. shotgun start.
