Edwards & Hickle Tied for Seventh in Longhorn First Day

AUSTIN, Texas – Thanks to a pair of top-10 ranked individuals, the No. 31 University of Oregon women's golf team opened the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Friday tied for fourth place (299) and were only four strokes behind the round leader, No. 1 UCLA.
The Bruins (295) held a one-stroke lead over host and No. 34 Texas (second, 296), and three other teams shot sub-300 scores – TCU (third, 298), UO and Texas A&M (fourth-tie, 299) – on the par 72, 6,255-yard University of Texas Golf Course.
Other teams in the top 10 included No. 17 Vanderbilt (sixth, 300), No. 7 Arizona (seventh-tie, 301), No. 39 Northwestern (seventh-tie, 301), No. 12 Stanford (ninth, 302) and No. 40 Notre Dame (10th, 303).
The remaining teams in the 17-team field included No. 22 New Mexico (11th-t, 305), No. 30 Washington (11th-t, 305), a Texas' 'B' Team (13th, 310), No. 24 UC Davis (14th, 311), No. 66 Oklahoma (15th, 313) and No. 42 Tulsa (17th, 317).
For the Ducks, sophomore Ashley Edwards and freshman Cheyenne Hickle were tied for seventh overall with one-over scores of 73. Junior Erica Omlid followed three strokes back in 32nd place (76), and UO's other two entries, junior Kendra Little and senior Felicia Eastick, were another stroke back and tied for 41st place overall (77).
Edwards paced the Ducks for second time in her 19th round this season and eighth time in her career, while Hickle enjoyed similar honors for the third time in her 17th collegiate round.
On the overall individual leaderboard, Longhorn individual Shannon Fish was tied with Sarah Zwartynski of Texas A&M for the lead with Friday's 2-under 70, and one stroke ahead of Stephanie Kono of UCLA (third-tie, 71) and Kristina Wong of Stanford (third-tie, 71).
