LAKESIDE, Calif. -- The top-ranked University of Oregon men's golf team recorded its fourth top 3 finish in five tournaments this spring season, placing third at the Barona Collegiate Cup hosted by San Diego State.
The Ducks rallied back from a poor first day at the 54-hole event, tying the tourney hosts and team champion Aztecs for the low round of the day at even par 360. Oregon finished at 17-over 1097 at the 7,324-yard Barona Creek Black course, three strokes behind runner-up UC Irvine and 25 shots back of SDSU.
Daniel Miernicki and Jack Dukeminier led Friday's surge for the Ducks. Miernicki fired a bogey-free, 5-under 67 and Dukeminier shot a 1-under 71 to tie his teammate for 11th place overall among individuals at 1-over 217.
Oregon's No. 1 Eugene Wong tied for 17th with a 3-over 219 and Andrew Vijarro tied for 40th at 8-over 224.
Sean Maekawa (+10) finished in the top half of the 104-man field, placing 49th, while Isaiah Telles (+13) tied for 64th.
The 16-team tournament ended a busy week for UO, which won the Oregon Duck Invitational on Tuesday at Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City, Ore. Next up is the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, starting Friday, April 2, in Tempe, Ariz.
