TEMPE, Ariz. -- The University of Oregon men's golf team struggled through most of the first day of the Pac-10 championships and sit in sixth place, 28 strokes behind top-ranked Stanford, after the first two rounds at Karsten Golf Course.
The No. 2 Ducks shot 7-under 703 at the 7,057-yard, par 71 course, posting a 4-under 351 in the first round and a 3-under 352 in the second. But the top four teams all went extremely low, paced by the Cardinal's 35-under performance. Host school and 13th-ranked Arizona State is in second at 22-under 688, followed by No. 10 USC (-21, 689) and No. 6 Washington (-20, 690).
Fourth-ranked UCLA stands in fifth place at 17-under 693. Oregon was one shot better than both Oregon State and Cal (-6, 704), who are tied for seventh. Arizona shot 1-under 709 and Washington State was the only team over par, finishing 36 holes at 12-over 722.
The Ducks were led by Jack Dukeminier, who opened with a 5-under 66. The junior from Eugene shot even par in Round 2 and is tied for 12th (-5, 137).
Daniel Miernicki was the only other UO golfer under par, shooting 68, 71 to tie for 20th at 3-under 139. Oregon's No. 1, Eugene Wong, had an uncharacteristic 74 in Round 1 and sits in a tie for 35th at 1-over 143.
Andrew Vijarro is also at 1-over 143 after rounds of 72 and 71. Isaiah Telles is at 2-over 144 (T-40th) and Jack Paton shot 6-over 148. Paton had the third-best score for Oregon with an even-par 71 in the first round, but shot 77 in the afternoon.
There is still plenty of golf to be played with 18 holes on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Tomorrow's tee times start at 9 a.m.
