Oregon Relays Quotes

Keshia Baker, W 200m (1st)
On the race overall:
“I was actually looking for a little bit faster time, because I'd like to be able to compete in the Pac-10's. But, we have been working hard so that's a pretty good time.”
On Pac-10 Meet:
“I'd like to contribute as many points as I can. I'm ready to go out and compete and get good 4x1 and 4x4 races. I just want to help out in any way I can, whether it be by cheering on our distance runners or competing.”
Mandy White, W 200m (2nd)
On how she felt:
“I felt good, I'm really tired. We've been working hard and had a tough workout yesterday.”
On the Hayward crowd:
“The crowd was good but I really tried and focused on our technique and getting out strong and finishing strong.
Brian Schaudt, M Triple Jump (2nd)
On the event overall:
“I came in tired, and I was a little worried because the wind was flip flopping. So it was a combination of the wind and being a little weary coming in. But, my teammates got me energized, and the weather was nice so I decided to go for it.”
On results:
“I wasn't happy with them; I was looking to get a PR. I scratched a pretty big jump, but I do that every meet. I felt good on all three phases, I just had 1-2 things go wrong. It's a very technical event.”
LaMichael James, M 100m (1st)
On the race overall:
“My PR is about a 10.47. It's really different getting hit at practice all week and it's difficult physically. My technique is coming along, but I am still running like I have the ball in my hands. I need to run with my arms more. It will come back to me in time. Next week when it's all track practice, it will be better.”
Jemma Simpson, W 1500m (1st)
On the race overall:
“I was pleased with the race. It's the first meet I've ran the 1500m so it got my legs going. The first 800m were a little slower than I wanted. I couldn't see behind me, I was just trying to hold on to my form. You have to go strong down the homestretch. I held on, so I was pleased.”
Will Leer, M 1500m (2nd)
On the race overall:
“I was excited. It was a bit calmer earlier, but this is a good race to have earlier in the season. We are out here training, getting ready for other meets in the next few weeks. We just wanted to make sure this race was honest and fast. It was fun to come out here, it was an exciting crowd. You'll see bigger things from us coming up.”
Jordan Hasay, W 1500 (3rd)
On the race:
“I feel good. I have been doing recovery time, this was a workout run. I am looking forward to the Pac-10s and NCAAs. I was trying to hang on and that is what I did. I am proud of it.”
On pro competition:
“It is an honor to be out there with them. It is cool to watch them warm up. I still look up to them and how they handle themselves before races.”
Lee Emanuel, New Mexico, M 1500 (2nd)
On finishing 2nd:
“I was nowhere near as fast as I was hoping for. When I heard Wheating's name announced I thought ?here comes Andy, oh God.' He is a great guy and a great runner.”
On personal race:
“I came here to run quick. I qualified for Nationals and that is the most important thing. I will be back in June.”
Andrew Wheating, M 1500 (1st)
On race overall:
“It was very refreshing. Coming off the Penn Relays we talked strategy and to be patient; that is the biggest word I ever say.”
“After 100 meters I kicked into gear. I had a lot left and at 400 meters Lee pushed the pace.”
On PR:
“It's a PR and I wanted that record real bad.”
On racing the 1500:
“I am starting to come around to the mile race. I absolutely love it.”
Rachel Yurkovich, Women Javelin (1st)
On throw overall:
“I thought I did awful, it was very frustrating.”
“I felt like the same as last year, I didn't get that huge throw I was looking for.”
“The competition felt like a practice, I didn't have any adrenaline.”
“My training has been similar as last year, it's been going well.”
“My technique wasn't good, I know how to fix those things.”
Alex Kosinski, Women 1500m (2nd)
On the overall race:
“I was hanging out around the back, and then the coaches told me to lead the race. I died on the last lap.”
“It helped having (Lauren) Fleshmen there.”
“I liked the 1,500 run.”
Lauren Fleshman, Women 5,000 (1st)
“I felt like a freshman in college. It was a good step forward. I can't believe how good it felt to bring it home like that.
“This race really marked the beginning of my comeback.”
Bronwyn Crossman, Women 10,000m (1st)
On the overall race.
“I thought it went well, better than I thought it would have gone.”
On the Weather
“The wind wasn't bad, I did have a little head wind but near the end it died down. The over condition was good, there wasn't rain.”
“I like training where we run lots of miles, those are the races I like because I have no speed.”
Head Coach Vin Lanana
“Andrew Wheating had a good finish and a good race plan. I am glad he waited until the last second (to kick). It was a good race for him; it is tough to come out after such a long trip (Penn Relays).”
