No. 32 Ducks Remain in Fourth in Central Regional 2nd Round

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bidding for its seventh NCAA Championships berth overall and first since 2000, the No. 32 University of Oregon women's golf held onto fourth place after Friday's second round of the NCAA Central Regional, hosted at the Otter Creek Golf Course.
The Ducks shot the fifth-lowest score (316) of the 24 teams in Friday's round, with overall leader and No. 4 USC moving into the overall lead by four strokes (299-304-603) with the round's low score.
No. 2 Arizona State (second, 297-310-607) dropped a position Friday, and stood six strokes ahead of No. 28 Oklahoma State (third, 305-308-613).
UO (fourth, 305-316-621) continued to rank seven positions above its pre-meet tourney seed (11th) in its third straight regional appearance and 15th overall.
The top 10 was rounded out by No. 7 Purdue (fifth, 303-320-623), No. 21 New Mexico (sixth, 306-318-624), No. 16 Denver (seventh, 312-313-625), No. 42 Ole Miss (eighth-tie, 309-317-626), No. 13 Michigan State (eighth-tie, 310-316-626) and No. 14 Georgia (eighth-tie, 312-314-626).
Other team scores and places follow – No. 22 Florida State (12th, 308-321-629), No. 45 San Diego State (13th, 319-316-635), No. 33 Louisville (14th, 315-324-639), No. 37 Northwestern (15th, 321-322-643), No. 47 Baylor (16th, 316-329-645), No. 54 Indiana (17th, 318-328-646), No. 80 Illinois State (17th-t, 317-329-646), No. 43 Notre Dame (19th, 328-319-647), No. 61 N.C. State (20th, 328-324-652), No. 49 Tulsa (21st, 324-330-654), Murray State (22nd, 336-347-683), Detroit-Mercy (23rd, 352-354-706) and Jackson State (24th, 357-357-714).
Individually, junior Kendra Little continued to pace UO in the overall standings (fourth-tie, 70-79-149), and was followed by freshman Cheyenne Hickle (27th-t, 77-78-155), sophomore Ashley Edwards (30th-t, 77-79-156), junior Erica Omlid (73rd-t, 83-80-163) and senior Kate Hildahl (90th-t, 81-86-167).
Hickle's six-over 78 Friday paced UO for the seventh time in her 18 rounds this spring, and she has accomplished the feat in at least one round in six of 2010's seven tournaments.
The Gilbert, Ariz., native Hickle also led UO's birdie count Friday with three on the par-5 first, par-4 second and seventh holes. She added par scores on eight holes (#4-6, 10-11, 14-16, 18), and bogeyed five holes (#3, 8-9, 13-17) and double-bogeyed the fifth and 12th holes.
Three other Ducks scored single birdies Friday – Little on the par-3 third, Edwards on the par-4 fourth and Hildahl on the par-4 11th hole.
Entering the day, Little stood in a tie for first place after Thursday's opening round, two-under 70, and was followed by Edwards and Hickle who were tied for 27th place overall (77), Hildahl (69th-t, 81) and Omlid (86th-t, 83).
In the overall individual standings, Oklahoma State's Victoria Park (72-74-146) and USC's Lizette Salas (75-71-146) improved three and 14 spots in the second round to move into a tie for the overall lead. Martina Gavier of Kent State followed one stroke back in third place (72-75-147), two strokes ahead of UO's Little who stood in a three-way tie for fourth place at 149.
