No. 4 Stanford Pulls Away from Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. – A game-long shooting slump and an early second-half run sent the Oregon women's basketball team to a 91-56 setback against No. 4 Stanford at Matthew Knight Arena on Thursday.
The Ducks (12-7, 3-5 Pac-10) shot 25 percent from the floor and were outscored by the Cardinal, 50-31, in the second half.
Stanford opened up the second half on a 16-2 run to open up a 30-point lead and shot 47.2 percent in the final 20 minutes to pull away.
Oregon trailed 41-25 at the half after falling behind 19-1 in the early going. The Ducks missed their first 15 field goal attempts before an offensive rebound paid off for Amanda Johnson, and the junior banked in a hook shot with 10:18 remaining in the first half.
Despite the cold start, UO crawled within 10 on a three-point play by Nia Jackson with 2:18 remaining in the opening stanza, making the score 33-23.
Jackson led all scorers with 14 first-half points, shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and playing 18 minutes. Oregon shot just 25.6 percent (10-of-39) from the field in the first half, and was cold from 3-point range knocking down just one of 17 attempts.
Nnemkadi Ogwumike led Stanford with 10 first-half points while Pedersen pulled down eight rebounds. The Cardinal shot 40.5 percent (17-of-42) from the floor in the first period.
Stanford shot 43.6 percent from the field and held Oregon to 25 percent shooting, including 9.4 percent (3-for-32) from three-point range. Oregon's pressure defense forced 18 Stanford turnovers and the offense only committed 11 turnovers.
Jackson led all scorers with 21 points and was joined by Johnson (15 points) in double figures. Johnson also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Stanford countered with five players scoring in double figures, led by Chiney Ogwumike's 18. Jeanette Pohlen tallied 17 points, Nemkadi Ogwumike and Sarah Booth poured in 16 apiece and Kayla Pedersen finished with 11. Pedersen pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and Chiney Ogwumike grabbed 12 more to both post double-doubles.
Oregon returns to the court on Saturday when it hosts California at Matthew Knight Arena. Opening tipoff is at 12:30 p.m.
