Ducks Picked Fifth in Pac-12 Preseason Poll

LOS ANGELES -- The University of Oregon men's basketball team was predicted to finish fifth in the 2011 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Preseason Media Poll announced on Friday. The Ducks garnered 282 points in the inaugural poll for the new 12-team conference.
UCLA, which received 14 first-place votes, was picked to win the league with a total of 421 points. California earned 405 points and 13 first-place votes to edge-out Arizona (404 points, 11 first-place votes) for second.
Washington earned 355 total points for fourth place. Oregon ranked just in front of No. 6 Stanford (255 points), with USC following at No. 7 after receiving 194 points.
Oregon State was picked eighth (188 points), Arizona State ninth (148 points), Colorado and Washington State are tied for 10th (119 points). Utah rounded out the poll in 12th (74 points).
Media have correctly picked the conference winner 12 times in 19 tries. The media were successful with their choice in five of the previous seven times UCLA was slated to capture the league crown.
Oregon opens its exhibition schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 2, with a home contest against Grand Valley University. UO plays its final exhibition on Nov. 6 against Lewis and Clark. The Ducks open the regular season on Nov. 11 at seventh-ranked Vanderbilt.
