LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of Oregon men's basketball team (2-1) returns to the road this week with a game against Nebraska (3-0). Tip-time for the Ducks-Cornhuskers contest is slated for 6 p.m. (PT) at Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
Oregon is 4-7 all-time against Nebraska, with the Huskers playing those games as part of the Big 8 or Big 12 Conference. NU is a program in its first season with the Big Ten Conference, with UO maintaining a 12-30 overall mark against teams from that league. The Ducks dropped the last meeting with the Huskers, an 88-79 result back on Dec. 15, 2007, in a neutral-site game played at Omaha's Quest Center. The last time UO-NU played in Lincoln was back on Dec. 1, 1986, a 76-60 win for Nebraska.
Oregon head coach Dana Altman has faced Nebraska 26 times in previous coaching stops at Creighton and Kansas State. He maintains a 13-13 overall record against Nebraska (10-7 against the Huskers while at Creighton and 3-6 while at Kansas State). In addition, Altman is 3-4 all-time against teams from the Big Ten.
NU is coming off an 83-63 victory over Rhode Island last Sunday. A game before that the Huskers were in Los Angeles for a 64-61 double-overtime victory at USC. Nebraska opened the season with a 65-48 home win over South Dakota.
The Huskers are coached by Doc Sadler who is in his sixth season as mentor in Lincoln (and 13th season overall as a head coach). He guided last year's Nebraska team to a 19-13 overall mark and an appearance in the Postseason National Invitation Tournament.

EFFECTS OF TURNOVERS, POOR FREE THROW SHOOTING
In the first two games of the season, the Ducks averaged 20.5 turnovers per game while shooting just 55.7 percent (34-of-61) from the free throw line. As a result, Oregon lost by 14 points to then seventh-ranked Vanderbilt and posted an eight-point home win over Eastern Washington.
In committing 20 turnovers against Vandy, and then following that up with 21 turnovers against Eastern Washington, the Ducks posted the two highest turnover totals as a team since Dana Altman took over as head coach. UO's previous worst turnover effort (under Altman) had been 17, which the Ducks did on four occasions in 2010-11.
In a 25-point home win over Southeast Missouri State last Sunday, Oregon came back to post a season-low eight turnovers and shoot 80 percent (20-of-25) from the charity stripe. The Ducks had a 29-12 edge in points off turnovers in that victory.
OREGON INKS THREE PREP PLAYERS DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD
Dana Altman announced the signing of three prep standouts to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Ducks beginning in 2012-13 are Dominic Artis (Richmond, Calif. / Findlay Prep), Ben Carter (Las Vegas, Nev. / Bishop Gorman HS) and Damyean Dotson (Houston, Texas / Jack Yates High School).
It is the second straight season that Altman has signed a strong recruiting class. UO brought in a consensus top 25 recruiting class a year ago according to Scout.com (No. 20), Rivals.com (No. 21) and ESPN.com (No. 23).
Dominic Artis (5-11, 175, G): Will play his senior season at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev. … Played freshman through junior seasons at Salesian High School in Richmond, Calif. … Averaged 14 points and 4.1 assists per game as a junior at SHS … As a freshman in 2009, helped lead SHS to California's Division IV state title … Played AAU basketball for the Oakland Soldiers … Also considered UCLA, California, St. Johns, Florida State, Memphis and Georgia Tech.

Damyean Dotson (6-6, 190, G): Is entering his senior season at Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas … Member of JYHS team that was a consensus No. 1 ranked prep team in the nation in 2010 … Helped lead JYHS to back-to-back state titles in freshman and sophomore seasons … Played AAU basketball for Houston Hoops … Also considered Arkansas, Georgetown, Colorado, Texas Tech and Baylor.
DUCKS POST A PAIR OF HOME WINS
Oregon defeated Eastern Washington 73-65 in its regular-season home opener and recorded an 86-61 runaway victory over Southeast Missouri State in a Sunday afternoon contest.
In last Thursday's win over EWU, the Ducks were led offensively by Garrett Sim who tallied a team-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Tyrone Nared came off the bench to contribute 15 points and a team-best seven rebounds, while fellow senior forward Jeremy Jacob matched that rebound total in just 11 minutes of action.
The Ducks outscored the Eagles 20-8 in the final 7:42, taking advantage of Eastern Washington's depleted lineup after three starters fouled out over a three-minute span midway through the half. Oregon took its first lead of the second half on a layup by Tony Woods to make it 58-57 with 6:22 left. Sim delivered the biggest blow, draining a 3-pointer to extend Oregon's lead to 65-58 with 5:13 to play.
UO had 21 turnovers against EWU, but just one in the final 10 minutes. Its 13 turnovers in the first half led to 20 points for the Eagles, who led 39-34 at the break.
Against the Redhawks, E.J. Singler scored 21 points, joined in double figures by Garrett Sim who tallied 14 and Jeremy Jacob who added 10 points. Oregon put the game away with a 32-1 run that spanned the first and second halves. Oregon led 24-21 with 4:36 to play in the first half when Jacob made a pair of free throws to start a 14-0 run that ended with Oregon up 38-21 at halftime.
That run grew to 21-0 in the opening minutes of the second half, and then eventually 32-1, making it 56-22 with 14:15 to play, and the Ducks lead hovered around 30 points for the rest of the game.
Singler finished 8-for-10 from the field and was perfect on his two 3-point attempts and three free-throw tries. He also was tied for the game-high with seven rebounds.
DUCKS TABBED FIFTH IN PAC-12 PRESEASON POLL
Oregon was predicted to finish fifth in the 2011 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Preseason Media Poll announced at the league's media day on Oct. 28. UO garnered 282 points in the inaugural poll for the 12-team conference.
UCLA, which received 14 first-place votes, was picked to win the league with a total of 421 points. California earned 405 points and 13 first-place votes to edge-out Arizona (404 points, 11 first-place votes) for second.
Washington earned 355 total points for fourth place. Oregon ranked just in front of No. 6 Stanford (255 points), with USC following at No. 7 after receiving 194 points. Oregon State was picked eighth (188 points), Arizona State ninth (148 points), Colorado and Washington State are tied for 10th (119 points). Utah rounded out in 12th (74 points).
TOUGH TO REPLACE
Joevan Catron captained the Ducks to 21 wins in his final collegiate season. The versatile forward's productivity and leadership will be hard to replace. Catron led the team in scoring (15.9 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg), field goals made and attempted (195-of-416), and free throws made and attempted (178-of-248). In fact, his 178 made free throws set a new single-season school record (passing Fred Jones who made 169 in the 2001-02 season). Catron also managed to rank second on the squad in steals (1.1 spg, 42).
Those scoring and rebounding numbers positioned Catron in the top 10 of conference players during the 2010-11 season, ranking sixth in points per game and ninth in rebounds per outing. He was recognized as second team all-conference for his play. In the 37 games he suited up for last season, Catron led the team in scoring 22 times and rebounding on 21 occasions. Of his 12 career 20-point or better games, 11 came last season. Catron reached double-figures in scoring 28 times in 2010-11. On the career, Catron set the modern school record for games played with 133.
