EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon men's basketball team (3-1) will play a home game against UTEP (1-3) this Tuesday, Nov. 29. Tip-time for the Ducks-Miners contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. (PT) at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon has won its last three games and is coming off an 83-76 road win over Nebraska last Wednesday. UTEP has dropped its last two games, including Saturday's 53-35 home loss to Stephen F. Austin (who the Ducks will play later this season as part of the Global Sports Hoops Showcase).
The Ducks and the Miners have never played. UO is 7-4 overall against teams from Conference USA. UTEP is coached by Tim Floyd who has a 354-193 overall record in 18 years as a NCAA Div. I head coach.

CORE GROUP OF RETURNERS LEAD THE WAY EARLY ON
UO's core group of returners - seniors Jeremy Jacob, Tyrone Nared and Garrett Sim, junior E.J. Singler and sophomore Johnathan Loyd - have played an integral part in jumping out to a 3-1 record.
Five of UO's top seven scorers are from that group: 1) Sim, 14.0 ppg; 2) Singler, 12.8 ppg; 5) Nared, 8.0 ppg; 6) Jacob, 7.0 ppg; 7) Loyd, 6.5 ppg.
And of the seven best field goal percentages on the team, five are players who started games for UO in 2010-11: 2) Nared, .647; 3) Sim, .593; 4) Singler, .567; 6) Jacob, .429; 7) Loyd, .421.
The team's top four rebounders this year include: 1) Singler, 5.0 rpg; 2) Nared, 4.8 rpg; 3) Jacob, 4.3 rpg; 4) Sim, 3.5 rpg.
The top three in steals are: 1) Loyd, 2.0 spg; 2) Singler, 1.5 spg; 3) Sim,1.5 spg.
And three of the top four assist men are returners: 1) Loyd, 4.5 apg; 2) Sim, 3.8 apg; 4) Singler, 1.3 apg.
DUCKS LIMIT TURNOVERS, IMPROVE FREE THROW SHOOTING
Since averaging 20.5 turnovers per game while shooting just 55.7 percent (34-of-61) on free throws in the first two games, UO has responded by averaging 10.0 turnovers and 75.4 percent (43-of-57) on free throws in the last two.
Oregon had 12 turnovers and shot 71.9 percent (23-of-32) on free throws in its road win over Nebraska, while maintaining a 19-12 advantage in points off turnovers. In the Ducks' 25-point home win over SE Missouri State, UO had a season-low eight turnovers and shot 80 percent (20-of-25) on free throws. The Ducks had a 29-12 edge in points off turnovers.
In committing 20 turnovers against Vandy and then 21 turnovers against Eastern Washington, the Ducks posted the two highest turnover totals as a team since Dana Altman took over as head coach. UO's previous worst turnover effort had been 17, which the Ducks did on four occasions in 2010-11.
LAST TIME OUT: OREGON 83, NEBRASKA 76
Four players scored in double-figures to lead Oregon to an 83-76 road win over Nebraska last Wednesday. Senior guard Garrett Sim scored a season-high 20 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Junior forward E.J. Singler scored 14 points, with seven of those coming from the free throw line (7-of-8). Senior forwards Olu Ashaolu and Jeremy Jacob finished with 12 points and 10 points, respectively. Senior forward Tyrone Nared added nine points and a season-best nine rebounds.
Nebraska rallied from 15 points down with a 22-7 run, tying the game at 75 with 2:01 to play on Bo Spencer's layup. The Huskers stopped Oregon on its next possession, but Nebraska's Brandon Ubel was called for a foul and Singler hit his first pair of free throws to put Oregon back in the lead with 43 seconds remaining. The Ducks went 8-of-8 from the foul line in the final minute. Jorge Brian Diaz scored 21 points to lead Nebraska. Dylan Talley scored 18 and Ubel had 15 for the Huskers.
UO INKS THREE PREP PLAYERS DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD
Dana Altman announced the signing of three prep standouts to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Ducks beginning in 2012-13 are Dominic Artis (Richmond, Calif. / Findlay Prep), Ben Carter (Las Vegas, Nev. / Bishop Gorman HS) and Damyean Dotson (Houston, Texas / Jack Yates High School). It is the second straight season that Altman has signed a strong recruiting class. UO brought in a consensus top 25 recruiting class a year ago according to Scout.com (No. 20), Rivals.com (No. 21) and ESPN.com (No. 23).
Dominic Artis (5-11, 175, G): Will play his senior season at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev. … Played freshman through junior seasons at Salesian High School in Richmond, Calif. … Averaged 14 points and 4.1 assists per game as a junior at SHS … As a freshman in 2009, helped lead SHS to California's Division IV state title … Played AAU basketball for the Oakland Soldiers … Also considered UCLA, California, St. Johns, Florida State, Memphis and Georgia Tech.
Ben Carter (6-8, 215, F): Is entering his senior season at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev. … Helped lead BGHS to a 25-6 overall record as a junior … A member of the BGHS squads that won a state title in his sophomore season (playing alongside current UO player Johnathan Loyd) … Played AAU basketball for the Las Vegas Lakers … Also considered USC, UNLV, San Diego State, Utah and New Mexico.
Damyean Dotson (6-6, 190, G): Is entering his senior season at Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas … Member of JYHS team that was a consensus No. 1 ranked prep team in the nation in 2010 … Helped lead JYHS to back-to-back state titles in freshman and sophomore seasons … Played AAU basketball for Houston Hoops … Also considered Arkansas, Georgetown, Colorado, Texas Tech and Baylor.
DUCKS TABBED FIFTH IN PAC-12 PRESEASON POLL
Oregon was predicted to finish fifth in the 2011 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Preseason Media Poll announced at the league's media day on Oct. 28. UO garnered 282 points in the inaugural poll for the 12-team conference.
UCLA, which received 14 first-place votes, was picked to win the league with a total of 421 points. California earned 405 points and 13 first-place votes to edge-out Arizona (404 points, 11 first-place votes) for second.
Washington earned 355 total points for fourth place. Oregon ranked just in front of No. 6 Stanford (255 points), with USC following at No. 7 after receiving 194 points. Oregon State was picked eighth (188 points), Arizona State ninth (148 points), Colorado and Washington State are tied for 10th (119 points). Utah rounded out in 12th (74 points).
