Ducks Close Non-League with Three Straight Wins

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon men's basketball team closed out the Global Sports Hoops Showcase with a 55-45 home win over Stephen F. Austin on Thursday night at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.
The Ducks, who ended their nonconference season with three wins in three nights, improved 9-3 overall.
Junior forward E.J. Singler scored a team-high 12 points, while senior guard Devoe Joseph contributed 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds. Fellow senior Olu Ashaolu added nine points and six rebounds off the bench.
The Ducks were limited to 41.9 percent shooting on field goals (18-of-43), while hitting just 5-of-18 from behind the 3-point arc (27.8 percent). UO shot 60.9 percent on free throws (14-of-23).
Jereal Scott had 16 points and six rebounds to pace the Lumberjacks (5-7), who were within a basket of Oregon's lead for most of the second half.
Leading 45-42 with 2:44 to play, the Ducks ended the game on a 9-3 run, getting all but two of those points from the free-throw line.
Oregon led 35-31 at halftime, breaking a late 18-18 tie with seven straight points before Stephen F. Austin scored the final basket of the half.
Oregon (9-3) returns to action with Pac-12 Conference games against Washington State (Dec. 29) and Washington (Dec. 31). The Ducks-Cougars contest will be played at Spokane Arena, while UO-UW will face off in Seattle.
POSTGAME NOTES
- The Ducks limited Stephen F. Austin to 45 points to match the lowest out-put for a UO opponent this season. Oregon also limited North Carolina Central to 45 in the first night of play at the Global Sports Hoops Showcase.
