03/12/11 | Men's Golf
BANDON, Ore. -- The University of Oregon men's golf team is in third place after the opening 36 holes of the Bandon Dunes Championship with a score of 5-over 581 on the par 72, 6,798-yard course.
The Ducks trail leader Washington (-10, 566) and Florida (-2, 574) in the 16-team event, while holding a seven-stroke lead over fourth-place teams Oregon State and Colorado.
Jack Dukeminier led Oregon with rounds of 70 and 73 to sit at 1-over 143. The senior from Eugene is tied for fourth overall with Saturday's final round of 18 holes to play.
Andrew Vijarro was 4-under after his first round of the day on Friday, but shot 77 in Round 2 and is tied for 11th at 1-over 145. UO's No. 1 golfer, Daniel Miernicki, is tied for 15th at 2-over 146, and Robbie Ziegler is in a tie for 25th at 4-over.
The second 18 proved more difficult for all five of Oregon's contingent as each players score went up by at least two strokes in the afternoon session.
Eugene Wong, an All-American and the Nicklaus Award Winner in 2010, continued his season-long struggles for the Ducks, shooting 73-76 to tie for 31st at 5-over.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament hosted by Gonzaga University is scheduled for Saturday with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
