Smatova Goes 1-1 on Opening Day of Pac-10 Tournament

Pavlina Smatova
moved up the Oregon women's tennis single season charts with her performance at the Pac-10 Championships on Thursday.
Smatova picked up her 22nd singles win of the year, moving into a tie for seventh on the Ducks' single season list. The senior dispatched UCLA's Nina Pantic in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) to move into the round of 16. The Plzen, Czech Republic native was then matched up against No. 2 Maria Sanchez of USC, where her run came to an end as Sanchez prevailed (6-2, 6-1).
Patricia Skowronski also opened up in the singles competition, but fell in straight sets to No. 99 Kaitlyn Christian of USC (6-2, 6-0).
Smatova and Skowronski will step onto the doubles court on Friday when they face USC's Alison Ramos and Cristala Andrews at 10 a.m.
