UO is coming off a road split in its inaugural Pac-12 trip to Utah and Colorado. The Ducks defeated the Utes 79-68 last Thursday, before falling 72-71 last Saturday at CU. The Huskies recorded a home sweep of the Los Angeles schools last week, a 71-69 win over UCLA and a 69-41 victory over USC. The Cougars split with USC and UCLA, with a 60-53 win over the Trojans before losing 63-60 to the Bruins.
Washington leads the all-time series over Oregon, 186-104. UW has won the last two meetings with UO, including a 76-60 result earlier this season in Seattle. The Ducks won last year's meeting at Matthew Knight Arena by a score of 81-76. UW was ranked No. 20 at the time.
The Ducks maintain a 160-123 advantage in the series history with Washington State, including wins in the last two meetings. Oregon led start-to-finish (only time in 2011-12) in a 92-75 trouncing of the Cougars earlier this season which was the conference-opener for both schools. UO registered a 69-43 win over WSU the last time the two teams met in Eugene.
THE ADMIRAL TO BE HONORED SATURDAY ON MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY
UO Athletics announced that Saturday's UO-WSU contest will be Military Appreciation Day. All active and retired military members receive 50 percent off admission to the game.
Those eligible for the discount can show their military identification card when purchasing tickets at either UO ticket office location (Matthew Knight Arena Box Office or Moshofsky Center Ticket Office).
In addition, the late John Dick, who was the last surviving starter from the UO's 1939 “Tall Firs” NCAA Championship team, will be recognized in a halftime ceremony. He was a retired U.S. Navy Admiral.
Dick, a regular at Duck football and basketball games for decades, was Oregon's leading scorer in the 1939 NCAA Championship game. He scored 13 points in a 46-33 win over Ohio State, and then went on to serve his country in World War II as part of his distinguished U.S. Navy career.
According to his coach, Howard Hobson, the 6-4 post solidified the team that would captured that first NCAA title.
Hailing from The Dalles, Ore., Dick was a starter as the Tall Firs first won the 1939 Pacific Coast Conference Northern Division with a 14-2 record. Oregon then defeated California in a playoff, two games to none, to earn a bid to the eight-team NCAA Tournament. The four qualifiers from the West - Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma and Utah State - met at Treasure Island near San Francisco. Oregon defeated Texas 56-41, while Oklahoma stopped Utah State 50-39 to advance to the Western final. The next night, Oregon defeated Oklahoma 55-37 to earn the right to face Eastern victor Ohio State in the very first NCAA Championship game.
As a senior and team captain in 1939-40, not only was Dick named an All-American and all-Pacific Coast Conference after scoring 333 points in 31 contests, but he was also president of the student body. He led the PCC North in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per game and his 75 field goals tied what was then the school single-season record. The Webfoots finished 19-12 that year and 10-6 in the division, two games back of Oregon State. The three-year letterman's No. 18 is one of seven jerseys retired by the University.
Beginning with his enrollment as a freshman in 1936-37, Dick was associated with the University for some seven decades.
OREGON ACROBATICS & TUMBLING TO HOLD HALFTIME EXHIBITION
The defending national champion Oregon Acrobatics & Tumbling team will hold a halftime exhibition at Thursday's game with Washington. Oregon A&T opens defense of its title with a tri-meet with Azusa Pacific and Quinnipiac on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena.

SINGLER IS OREGON'S MR. CONSISTENCY
Junior forward E.J. Singler (bio on page 20) leads the team with 298 total points (13.0 ppg) and has grabbed a team-high 125 total rebounds (5.4 rpg). Singler has taken -- and made -- the most shots of any Duck this season (97-of-211, .460).
Singler ranks second in the Pac-12 in free throw percentage (.882, 75-of-85) and third in school history for career free throw percentage (.861, 230-of-267). As of Feb. 6, Singler ranked 22nd nationally in free throw percentage (leader: 93.0 percent, Robby Ptacek, Central Connecticut State).
The 6-6 forward from Medford, Ore., has reached double-figures in scoring in 19 of the 23 games this season. He's scored 10 or more points in 53 of his 94 career games at UO. Singler has also led the Ducks in rebounding on seven occasions this season (and 29 times in his career).
Last weekend, Singler posted 13 points and a season-best 13 rebounds at Colorado for his first double-double of the season (fourth career). He scored a career-high 26 points in a recent home win over UCLA, making 16-of-17 from the free throw line. He scored 20 of UO's 60 total points earlier this year at Washington, a game where he also grabbed nine boards. He also posted 21 points against SE Missouri State (8-of-10 on FGS).
Singler ranks among the Pac-12 active leaders in career statistics: fifth in rebounds (482) and sixth in career points (951).
With a 13.0 points per game average in 2011-12, Singler is on pace to eclipse the 1,000-point mark this season. Singler has 951 points in 94 career games for a 10.1 ppg scoring average. He is looking to become the 31st player in school history to reach the scoring mark.
Singler is one of two Ducks to have started every game this season (joined only by Garrett Sim). In fact, Singler has started the last 68 games for UO dating back to his freshman season. He started all 39 games a year ago and 22-of-32 games as a freshman.
DUCKS ARE WINNING CLOSE GAMES THIS SEASON
Oregon is 10-2 this season in games decided by fewer than 10 points (4-1 in games decided by less than five points). UO's only losses in those games came at Colorado (72-71) and at home to OSU (76-71). The Pac-12 team with the next best mark in games decided by less than 10 points is CU (8-4).
In those tight games, the Ducks had the advantage in all three shooting percentages (UO / Opponent): overall field goal percentage (.448 / .431), 3-point percentage (.368 / .316) and free throw percentage (.716 / .682).
UO has closed-out several games on the free throw line. The Ducks are shooting 86.3 percent (69-of-80) from the charity stripe in the final five minutes of games decided by less than 10 points. A big difference from the 69.8 percent (358-of-513) they are making on the season.
UO's ball handlers have been terrific at the line in crunch time of close games. E.J. Singler (23-of-24), Garrett Sim (14-of-15), Devoe Joseph (14-of-17) and Johnathan Loyd (10-of-12) are a combined 61-of-68 (.897) in those pressure situations.
OREGON OFF TO STRONG START IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Oregon (7-4) is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 standings (with Arizona). The Ducks came in at No. 83 in this week's NCAA RPI Rankings released on Monday. Only three other Pac-12 schools ranks higher (Cal at No. 48, Colorado at No. 73 and Washington at No. 76).
The Ducks have been effective away from Eugene, as over half of UO's league wins have come on the road (4-2 in road tests). The other 11 league schools are a combined 17-of-49 in road games. In Pac-12 games only, UO ranks tied for first in 3-pointers made (78), third in blocks (3.6 bpg), fourth in free throw percentage (.725), scoring offense (70.6 ppg) and rebounding margin (+2.5). Individually, Devoe Joseph is fourth (16.6 ppg) and E.J. Singler is eighth (13.8 ppg) in scoring.
UO FEATURES BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
Six different Ducks have led the team in scoring this season: Devoe Joseph (nine times), Garrett Sim (six times), E.J. Singler (six times), Olu Ashaolu (twice), Johnathan Loyd (once) and Tony Woods (once). Ten of UO's 11 scholarship players have reached double-figures in scoring. The leaders in that category are Singler (19 times), Joseph (16) and Sim (14). In addition, five different Ducks have dropped 20 or more points in a game this season (Joseph, Sim and Singler three times each, Ashaolu and Loyd once).
JOSEPH KEY ADDITION TO OREGON LINEUP
Since becoming eligible to compete on Dec. 10, senior guard Devoe Joseph (bio on page 23) has averaged a team-high 15.8 points per outing. He's led the team in field goals made (89), field goals attempted (197) and minutes played (34.8 mpg) in those 17 games. The Ducks are 12-5 with him in the lineup.
Joseph has scored in double-figures 16 times and has a 30-point effort against Stanford in the books. He has scored 10 or more points in nine consecutive games and has led the team in scoring in the last three outings.
Joseph has bettered his scoring average to 16.6 points per game in the Pac-12, shooting 48.3 percent (29-of-60) on 3-pointers in those league games. He's also shooting 81.0 percent on free throws (34-of-42) against Pac-12 teams.
Season highlights include: Joseph came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points in 29 minutes in his Oregon debut against Fresno State. He tallied 19 points and a career-high five steals in UO's win over Prairie View A&M. A night later he nearly registered a double-double with 10 points and a career-best eight rebounds against Stephen F. Austin. Joseph had 17 points and matched a career-high with seven assists in a road win over Washington State.
BLOCKED SHOTS A FACTOR FOR DUCKS
The Ducks have a 9-2 record in games where they tally four or more blocks. UO's only losses came in the season-opener at No. 7 Vanderbilt and two weeks ago against Oregon State. In 22 of the 23 outings this season, Oregon has recorded at least one block. The Ducks are 9-1 this season when they record more blocks than their opponent (L, vs. Oregon State).
Junior center Tony Woods (bio on page 26) ranks second in the Pac-12 with 37 blocks (1.6 bpg). Woods has rejected 22 shots (2.0 bpg) in the Ducks' 11 conference games this year. As a team, UO ranks fifth in blocks (3.8 bpg) amongst the rest of the league.
Woods' total in 2011-12 ranks tied for fith all-time for blocks in a single season at Oregon (w/ Michael Dunigan). With a possible eight games remaining on the schedule, Woods is projected to break the school record for blocks in a season as he is just seven shy from the mark (42, Blair Rasmussen; 1983-84).
Woods had a career-high five blocks in the win over Portland State, the most blocks for a UO player since Dec. 31, 2009 (Dunigan at Washington State). That total is tied for the second-best single-game effort for a Pac-12 player this season. In addition, that five-block game ranks tied for second in school history for most blocks in a single game.
SIM AVERAGING CAREER-HIGHS THIS SEASON
Senior guard Garrett Sim (bio on page 14) is averaging career-highs in points per game (11.7 ppg), field goal percentage (.489, 88-of-180), 3-point percentage (.450, 45-of-100) and free throw percentage (.860, 49-of-57). He ranks third in the conference in 3-point percentage, fourth in free throw percentage, while ranking tied for 10th in minutes played (32.0).
Sim's does not have enough made field goals to qualify for the national rankings (minimum 5 FGs made/game; 2.5 3-PT FGs made/game). However, Sim's 3-point field goal percentage would rank tied for 13th and his free throw percentage would rank tied for 40th nationally.
In 125 career games, Sim has 934 points (eighth) and 225 assists (eighth) which both rank in the top 10 of the Pac-12's active career leaders. In addition, Sim's 157 career 3-pointers ranks second and his 94 career steals ranks seventh.
Sim is on pace to match Joevan Catron's modern school record for games played (133). With a 11.7 ppg average this season, Sim is on track to become the 32nd player in school history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark. Sim is also just 10 steals shy of ranking 10th all-time at UO for career steals (94).
