Oregon-Portland State Quotes
12/01/14 | Men's Basketball
Dana Altman – Oregon Head Coach
On what the win means…
“It was a step. It was a step in the right direction. Especially bouncing back from two losses, but we have to have a great week here and just have to keep getting better. December has got to be all about getting better, everyday in practice and every game.”
On recording 12 blocks…
“Jordan [Bell] did a nice job. They just kind of put their heads down and drove it as hard as they could at the basket, which allowed us to come over from the weak side a number of times.”
On Jordan Bell…
“Jordan's got an ability to get off his feet quick. When his knees are bent, he's a pretty good athlete.”
“He got a couple shots down early and really felt good, and his shot selection was really good. He's a good shooter when he's taking good shots.”
“Not only did he hit shots but he gave us great energy on the defensive end, he had some great block outs and allowed us to pick up some loose balls. I thought he played really well.”
Casey Benson – Oregon Guard, Freshman
On getting the start tonight…
“It felt really good. I just wanted to come in and do whatever I could to help the team win the game. Make little plays, take care of the ball and knock down open shots. Got to give credit to my teammates, finding me in those open positions.”
On how the team got rolling early in the first half….
“We got stops defensively, that was a big thing and getting out in transition and getting some easy baskets really helped. We started off with some jump shots so getting out in transition was a big key for us.”
Tyler Geving – Portland State Head Coach
On their performance on offense...
"It was a combination (of good defense and not making shots), I thought their pressure was really good, I thought they forced us to run everything we tried to do basically from out at about 25-30 feet. They did a good job of pushing us away from the basket."
"We had some good looks, but we just didn't hit them. But a lot of it was their pressure was better than we anticipated, we didn't do a very good job of handling it."
Takeaways from the game moving forward
"I told our guys this is probably the first time we have been hit with adversity, the first time we lost (this season). For us, I like the fact that we competed. The last 10-12 minutes we didn't pack it in, and that was important, that's what we talked about in timeouts. I think the big thing for us was sticking together, and we have got be ready to go Wednesday against a good Portland team."
