Mississippi vs. Oregon - Quotes
12/07/14 | Men's Basketball
Dana Altman- Head Coach
On the game…
“We got beaten in almost all phases of the game. Second-chance points were big. We got a lot of offensive rebounds, we just didn't finish a lot of them. We only had eight turnovers, but it turned into 15 points. We dug ourselves a big hole in the first half and we never recovered.”
On the sequence prior to halftime…
“That didn't help the dynamic and it cost us.”
On the zone coverage…
“They have been playing a lot of zone, they (Oregon) were ready for it, we just didn't shoot well. And we had a hard time finishing inside when we got it in there."
On Joseph Young…
“He isn't shooting the ball well. He needs to have good shot selection and they took a few early ones which messed up our rhythm.”
On defense…
“It was really bad. A lot of it is communication. We knew they were going to run and we just didn't stop them. Part of it is communication, part of it is guys not sure where they should be. We have a lot of work to do on the defensive end, period.”
On the offense…
“We didn't have much flow offensively. We didn't have any transition baskets, our push wasn't very good. Part of that was their offensive rebounding, which really slows down your break because you have to battle for boards and we just did a really poor job there.”
On upcoming games…
“All of our games right now are about trying to figure out where we are at. We have a lot of new guys out there and we have a tremendous amount of work to do. But there were more negatives today than positives. We just have to get better.”
Ahmaad Rorie – Guard, Freshman
On what went wrong…
“We didn't have enough movement, ball movement, or just player movement. It was real stagnant just everybody standing around. We should have been pushing the ball more.”
On not getting good shots…
“I feel like we were just settling a lot. We should have been pushing the ball more, getting the ball in the paint and then penetrating and kicking and getting shots that way. Everybody was just coming down and shooting threes on their own, that wasn't working for us.”
On the struggles from three-point range…
“I feel like sometimes our starts just aren't good. We just come down and feel comfortable that the game is close and we just start shooting threes. Then when we penetrate and kick we get better threes and a lot better shots. I feel like it always takes us until the second half, and you saw what happened tonight. It didn't work out for us.”
On how the team can turn it around…
“I feel like we can fix it. At practice tomorrow we just have to all come and buy into what we have to do. If we do that we can turn it around real quick.”
Stefan Moody – Ole Miss Guard, Junior
On the game…
“We just had to make sure that we would come out and set the tone first, because I knew they were going to come in attack-mode at us. We made a valiant effort to come out harder than they did.”
On getting a win after Thursday's loss vs. TCU…
“Every time you take a tough loss like that, you have to evaluate all the things that happened. We did that, passed it on, and looked at Oregon.”
On his buzzer-beater three at the end of the first half…
“Seeing him get the tip, I just took off running and looked straight up at the clock. I saw there were three seconds, looked to the right at Snoop, he threw it to me and I just floated it in.”
