Oregon vs. Oregon State Postgame Quotes
02/16/14 | Men's Basketball
Head Coach Dana Altman
On what he saw differently this time after so many close losses that helped them win…
“When they got it back to a two point game our guys struggled a little bit with that, but we also had some guys make some plays. Jason (Calliste) hit a big three pointer, Joe (Young) hit some shots and we made most of our free throws. I don't know if there was any big difference. We made some bad fundamentally sound plays that allowed them to get back in it, but then we made some good plays down the stretch that really helped us out.”
On his thoughts about the early seven three pointers to get the team going offensively…
“We haven't been hitting many shots. We had tremendous energy from that and when they came back they were hitting shots and their energy went up. Its human nature and I have seen both teams do it over a long time; the ball goes in the net and the energy level goes up. When we hit our threes early we did bounce around pretty good. When they started coming back they got some good shots and knocked them down, and their energy level went way up. It was really more of an offensive game than anything.”
OREGON PLAYER QUOTES

On the win…
“This was an important game for us to kind of get back on track. We've been so close. It was important for us to bounce back and start this little run off we're going to go on.”
What went well for the team…
“Taking good shots. Good shooters were shooting the ball. Good passes and just knocking them down.”
“I think we had a really good week at practice. We went hard the first two days of practice. Then the last two days, we kind of tailored it more toward Oregon State. People were focused and locked in so I think it was just a good week at practice. People were ready. We knew how bad we wanted this. There was a sense of urgency and it worked out for us.”
On looking ahead…
“We're playing the Huskies, which is still a rivalry game, so we're going to have to bring the same intensity. It's more than just a win or a loss. We're playing for a lot more than that. The seniors are going to try to preach that message because it's our last year. We're just going to have to lead these guys and hope they follow us.”

On the offense making baskets the first half…
“It kind of gets contagious with our team. For a while there we were a hundred percent, you just didn't want to be that guy that missed so I feel like it's just like we were kind of putting pressure on each other but at the same time we had a long week to be in the gym.”
On the game plan the second half…
“We just wanted to find a way to stop them and rebound down the stretch.”
OREGON STATE QUOTES
Head coach Craig Robinson
Opening statement…
“You can't play any game, let alone a Civil War game, where you start off by giving the other team a 19 point lead. That's what we did. This is the second game where I haven't liked how we got started, so I have to do something about that. After we gave them a head start, I liked the way we played and defended. We ended up out-rebounding them and in the second half, we held them to 2-of-7 from three. That team lives on threes and our whole game plan was to stop that. They shot about 30 of them in the beginning of the game.”
On their issues defending…
“I thought that we went under on guys that we should have gone over, and we went over and guys we should have gone under. There was a little mis-execution there.”
On defensive adjustments to get back in the game…
“We made a few adjustments and started doing what we were supposed to do. After that eight minute timeout, I thought we played well defensively. By then, they had 10 minutes where they opened a 19 point lead. We started chipping away at it and got it down to two. At that point, it felt like every time we cut it to two they got a three-point play.”
On the outlook for the remainder of the season and Pac-12 Tournament seeding…
“I think that all the teams in this league are capable of beating each other. Now, we put pressure on ourselves to take care of our home court. We've done a pretty good job of that. We'll have some tough games with Washington and Washington State, and we need to win those two for sure. It's going to be tough, but we know that.”
