Oregon vs. Washington Postgame Quotes
02/20/14 | Men's Basketball
Head Coach Dana Altman
On Damyean Dotson…
“I thought he was really solid. Shot selection was really good. Defensively, I thought he had a great night. Offensively, he had a very good night. Really good game for him.”
On the team…
“The guys have stayed resilient. They've stayed together. The seniors have tried to lead because it's really important for those guys to finish strong. I like the way they've handled it. It's been a tough stretch and we have a lot of work ahead of us. The great thing for us is that we're going to have our shot. It starts again on Sunday and all we have to worry about is Washington Stat. We just have to keep going…one at a time.”
On the momentum change in the second half…
“We wanted to get some energy going. Johnny attacked the basket on that first possession and Mike made a good three-point play, which allowed us to set a press. Then the crowd got into it a bit and we got transitions. We didn't play with the energy and bounce that we wanted to in the first half.”
On his 500th win...
“You realize how fortunate you are. I've been really fortunate to work at really good places. I never would have gotten a start if it hadn't been for a guy name Mitch Richmond. My whole career started because I got a really good player. Everything I've been able to do has been because of really good players.”
OREGON PLAYER QUOTES
#10 Johnathan Loyd
On how it feels to finish out his career with a win against Washington…
“It feels good. Like I said earlier, Washington is basically like our second rival behind Oregon State. We can't lose to either team at home so I was glad we could pull off the win.”
On how he has adapted to and is playing better with the face mask…
“Yes, but I am so ready to take it off, I'm so ready. Each game it gets better and better and becomes less annoying and I continue to get used to it. When its time to take it off I am going to throw it away.”
On what was said in the huddle before the start of the second half…
“I told the guys to go out there and play as hard as you can. Try to pay attention to detail and go hard. If you do that then we will be fine.”
#00 Mike Moser
On his three point play to get the basket and foul when the game was 73-70 in the final minutes…
“We messed up the play. I sort of broke it off and did my own thing and it happened to work out. We were running our play and someone was in the wrong spot, but it still happened to work out really well.”
On how they were able to deny the post in the second half and force more three pointers…
“I think we had a lot more energy. Johnny (Loyd) and the guys down low were not letting them get into the paint. They had to take so many threes as sort of a last resort. I don't think they wanted to shoot that many.
#21 Damyean Dotson
On what was behind the fire he showed tonight…
“From me not playing so well at the beginning of the year, I was trying to get back into a rhythm and focus on playing hard. Coach told me to rebound defensively and that's what I tried to do. When the offense started to come I was able to show a lot of emotion.”
WASHINGTON QUOTES
Head coach Lorenzo Romar
Opening statement…
“Oregon, as we knew, is an explosive offensive team, and I think they showed that in the second half. They found their rhythm and hurt us with their ball screens. We did a good job against it in the first half, but in the second half they hurt us. We began to double it and slow it down a little bit. We had a lot of opportunities to make plays down the stretch and we didn't. I thought that was the difference in the game.”
On settling down after Oregon's early second half run…
“We turned it over a couple times early and missed a few defensive assignments. Our guys weathered the storm unlike some other games on the road where we faded away. I don't think we faded tonight. We were a few plays away from getting over the hump, but we didn't.”
On whether they missed plays late on offense or defense…
“Both. There were a couple missed assignments on the defensive end, but offensively we had some golden opportunities that we didn't capitalize on.”
On how Oregon pulled away late after UW tied the game…
“We had a couple turnovers. They (Oregon) were just on a roll and continued to make shots, and we weren't doing it at that point.”
