Oregon vs. Washington State Postgame Quotes
02/24/14 | Men's Basketball
Head Coach Dana Altman
On what was different from the first and second half…
“Energy was just totally different in the second half. The pace definitely changed, we got the pace how we wanted. They had the pace how they wanted in the first half, but in the second half we had the pace that benefitted us.”
On Damyean Dotson not playing tonight…
“That's between Dot(Damyean Dotson) and myself. We will work through this. He's done a lot of good things in the past two years.”
On what the team misses when Dotson is out…
“He's a good player. He's been a little inconsistent with his shooting and his shot selection hasn't been the best lately, but he brings good energy and he's all about the team. He's a team guy, he's a good young man.”
On Mike Moser in the second half…
“Played with good energy, he came out with two blocked shots and made some threes. He was definitely the difference maker in the second half.”
On the team playing better the last few games…
“We've played better, but we aren't where we should be on the boards and defensively. In the second half our ball movement was really good.”
On winning the last three at home…
“That's all we have done. We played our way out and now we have played our way back in. We have a chance to turn it around. We have our work cut out for us, but we have a chance to turn it around. It's going to be a tough road trip.”
OREGON PLAYER QUOTES
#00 Mike Moser
On coming out strong in the second half…
“I was just trying to bring some energy. Washington State plays slow and kind of lulls you to sleep, so I just tried to come out with energy and pick my teammates up and it got some people going.”
#03 Joseph Young
On the game…
“In the first half I couldn't get it going on the offensive end, but I have teammates so I just tried to get the assists up and distribute the ball. ”
On Coach Altman at halftime…
“He preached about it, but it's us out there playing and we have to come together as a team and pull the ball game out because coach is not playing, we're playing.”
#13 Jason Calliste
On the first half…
“We were playing bad and needed to pick it up. We did that in the second half.”
On the adjustments they made at halftime…
“We just played harder and made plays for each other. I think we had more assists in the second half, we just played harder.”
WASHINGTON QUOTES
Head Coach Ken Bone
On the difference between the first and second halves…
“Well, there were a few things. One of the things we did consistently is turn the ball over, and they started converting on those turnovers. They outscored us 24 to our seven in points off turnovers and that really hurt us in both halves. I think the biggest difference, just like last year where we were up nine or 11 at halftime, was that Oregon did a nice job coming out after the half and turning up the heat. They were very active and tonight we coughed up the ball."
On if the defense was worse in second half or if Oregon just caught fire…
“I think it's a little bit of each. When guys hit those shots, it will make a defense look bad. Moser stepped out and hit a couple and some other guys were putting the ball in the basket. Part of that was due to our lack of taking care of the ball. That allowed them to get some easy ones.”
On if he was expecting Oregon to press that much…
“Yeah, they did that in Pullman and they beat us by a lot. I was expecting them to press.”
On his team's defense in the first half…
“It was good. We did some good things defensively in the first half. I thought we played at our speed, which we needed to against a team like this that is capable of putting up big numbers, especially on their home court. Obviously, it got away from us in the second half.”
