Ducks Fall to Huskies
10/17/15 | Women's Volleyball
SEATTLE ? The No. 24 Oregon volleyball team fell in straight sets to No. 4 Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena, Friday, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16.
How it Happened: The Ducks were tested against the Huskies' nation-leading offense and defense in terms of hitting efficiency, as Washington spread the ball around to its hitters. Each of the first two sets were hard-fought and closely contested throughout. The Ducks trailed 15-13 in the first set but a 3-0 run made it a five-point gap, one the Huskies would finish the set with. Oregon cut the lead to 22-20 in the second set but a Washington timeout led to a 3-1 run to take the teams to intermission.
Lindsey Vander Weide again led the team in kills finishing with 13 on .219 hitting. The freshman also led the team with three service aces, continuing her hot streak from the service line notching nine aces in the last four matches.
What it Means: Even with the loss, the Ducks are just one win shy of a .500 record in Pac-12 play. A win at Washington State on Sunday could go a long way in terms of Oregon's Pac-12 placement and NCAA Tournament positioning. History bodes well for the Ducks, as the team has lost two matches in a Pac-12 weekend only once in the past two years, and head to Washington State with a 17-match win streak against the Cougars.
Notes and Numbers: Frankie Shebby led the team in hitting efficiency coming off the bench to record four kills on seven attempts (.571) in the third set...Amanda Benson led the team with 14 digs.
What's Next: Oregon will travel across the state of Washington to Pullman where they will take on Washington State, Sunday at 1 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.
