PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon men's golf team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational in 11th overall at 1-under for the tournament.
How It Happened: With play moving to the par-72, 7,015-yard Witch Hollow course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course, the Ducks shot a 2-over 290 in their second round on Monday. Aaron Wise, Thomas Lim and Zach Foushee led the Ducks, each carding a 1-under 71.
With the Ducks teeing off on the 10th hole for their second round, Wise was strong early. The sophomore opened his round with a birdie and an eagle back to back on the par-4 13th and the par-5 14th, respectively, to get to the turn at 3-under. Three bogeys through his final nine holes, however, would lead the sophomore to finish the day at 4-under for the tournament and tied for 19th overall.
Foushee sits tied for 28th after his 71 on Monday moved him to 2-under through 36 holes. The senior had a number of strong moments but struggled to maintain a steady rhythm, draining five total birdies along with two bogeys and a double bogey in his second round.
At the conclusion of Monday's action, Lim found himself knotted in 35th after a second-round 1-under 71 to go with his even-par 71 at Pumpkin Ridge's par-71, 6,834-yard Ghost Creek course on Sunday.
Sulman Raza and Brandon McIver ended their second rounds with 36-hole tallies of 8-over and 9-over, respectively.
What It Means: Another day of low scores from first-round leaders Wake Forest and USC along with big second rounds from the likes of Duke and Texas have expanded the gap between the Ducks and the top of the leaderboard. Oregon will aim for consistency throughout it's lineup in Monday's final round to claim the best possible finish and gain some momentum heading into the final tournament of the fall season, The Gifford, in November.
Tuesday's Schedule: Paired with Vanderbilt and Washington, the Ducks will begin their final round at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at 8:20 a.m. from the 10th tee.
