PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon men's golf team finished play at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational in 10th place on Tuesday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course.
How It Happened: Playing at Pumpkin Ridge's par-72, 7,015-yard Witch Hollow course, the Ducks carded a 5-under 283 in their final round for the team's lowest score to par of the tournament.
Oregon finished the championship at 6-under with a 54-hole final tally of 854 to end the weekend in 10th overall. Wake Forest won the team championship at 37-under. Beau Hossler of Texas earned medalist honors at 18-under.
Aaron Wise wrapped up the weekend tied for 16th on the player leaderboard at 6-under to lead the Ducks. Wise birdied two of his last four holes to post a 2-under 70 for his final round. The reigning Pac-12 Golfer of the Month has now scored below par in eight of his nine rounds so far this season.
Junior Thomas Lim turned in the Ducks' low round of the day with a 3-under 69 to finish competition at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at 4-under in a tie for 24th overall. Lim's 69 tied his season-low stroke total, and was his lowest score to par this season.
Coming off a pair 1-under rounds through his first 36 holes, senior Zach Foushee fired a 1-over 73 in his final round to conclude the tournament knotted in 34th at 1-under.
After bogeying three of his first four holes Tuesday, Sulman Raza rebounded to sink four birdies and no bogeys throughout the rest of the day to finish with a 1-under 71 for his final round. Raza ended up with a 7-over final tally for the championship.
Brandon McIver carded a 1-over 73 in his third round to finish in 68th overall.
What It Means: The Ducks saved their best round of the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational for last, and while the end result may not be what head coach Casey Martin and his team were striving for this weekend, Oregon was competing amongst an extraordinarily talented field of teams that was perhaps one of the deepest they will see this season. Oregon will hope to bounce back and finish the fall season strong as they head to The Gifford in San Diego, Calif., next month.
Up Next: After three consecutive weekends of competition, the Ducks will have almost a month off to prepare and get fresh for their final fall tournament, The Gifford, Nov. 2-4.
