EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon volleyball team beat Washington State on Wednesday at Matthew Knight Arena, 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 25-17, to win consecutive Pac-12 matches for the second time this fall and continue building momentum during the stretch run of the regular season.
How It Happened: Coming off an upset of No. 9 UCLA on the road last week, the Ducks picked up right where they left off. Oregon (14-12, 8-9 Pac-12) scored four straight points to take control of the first set at 9-6. Lindsey Vander Weide had a kill for a 24-18 lead, and though WSU rallied to score twice, Vander Weide put the set away with another kill.
The Cougars (15-14, 4-13) used their block to threaten the Ducks in the second set. Three straight WSU points came via the block as the Cougars took a 12-9 lead midset. Oregon adjusted by scoring on tips from Frankie Shebby, Martenne Bettendorf and Vander Weide, the last tying the set 13-13. Oregon took its first lead since 1-0 at 19-18, and went up 24-23 on a Taylor Agost kill. Vander Weide served for the set, and her dig and pass to August Raskie set up Shebby for the clincher.
Washington State proved resilient in the third set, scoring four straight to dig out of a 10-7 hole and take the lead. WSU used another four-point spurt to go up 16-12, and ended a three-point UO run by scoring on set point. The Cougars hit .379 in the third, and Oregon hit .171.
UO coach Jim Moore adjusted Oregon's serve receive in the fourth set, adding Shebby to the normal duo of Vander Weide and Amanda Benson. That helped stabilize the Ducks, who led nearly wire-to-wire. And Shebby seemed energized by the change, recording a team-high four kills in the set.
Who Stood Out: Shebby ended up leading the Ducks with a season-high 15 kills and added 11 digs, three more than her previous career best. Vander Weide added a 13 kills with a season-high 17 digs, Agost had 12 kills and Bettendorf finished with 10.

On adjusting his serve receive in the final set
“We really struggled passing tonight. Frankie stepped up and played awesome. We went to a three-person serve receive and played well.”
On the third-set lapse
“That's immaturity. It's just not staying on it and finishing. That's what's gotten us.”
What It Means: Oregon is in desperate need of wins to finish the regular season above .500 and make the best possible case for a postseason bid, and now has a little cushion before meeting ranked opponents in the next two matches.
Notable: The Ducks won back-to-back Pac-12 matches for the first time since beating Utah and California in early October. … Oregon had four players with double-digit kills for the second time this season, and the first in a match that went less than five sets. … The Ducks won for the 19th consecutive time over WSU.
Up Next: The Ducks host No. 2 Washington in Matthew Knight Arena on Friday (4 p.m., Pac-12 Networks).
