EUGENE, Ore. -- Jillian Alleyne and Lexi Bando combined for 61 points as the Oregon women's basketball team downed San Jose State, 104-74, on Monday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
CAREER NIGHTS: Alleyne grabbed 20 boards to go along with 26 points en route to her 22nd consecutive double-double. The streak broke her own school and Pac-12 record of 21 straight that she set between her sophomore and junior seasons. It was also her 75th career double-double, bringing her closer to the Pac-12 record of 85, which is currently held by former Stanford star Chiney Ogwumike.
"I thought Jill was really impressive tonight," head coach Kelly Graves said. "I thought this was the best game she's played this year and she just had a different energy around her."
Lexi Bando was the epitome of efficiency as the sophomore hit 12-of-17 (70.5 percent) of her shots from the field and scored a career-high 35 points. Bando was 6-of-7 from behind the three-point line, tied for the fourth-best mark in UO history, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Her previous career-high was 28 points on 11 made field goals, which she did last season as a freshman against Santa Clara.
"She's the best shooter I've ever coached," Graves added. "She does it every day in practice. If you let her get her feet set, it's like a lay-up for you and me. This is something she does. It's who she is. She wants to be the best."
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Spartans (1-4) scored the first bucket of the game, but that was the only time they led as the Ducks (6-0) scored 13 straight points to set the tone. Jacinta Vandenberg contributed two baskets early and Alleyne was a force on the boards, collecting seven rebounds in the opening quarter.
The second quarter saw much of the same as Bando continued to be lights out, scoring 16 of her 35 points in the first 11 minutes of the game. Play from the Oregon bench was also key as Liz Brenner came in and scored nine of her season-high 11 points in the second quarter.
"I think Liz is getting better and better," Graves said. "I've been so impressed with her. She does a great job of creating space and she's a smart basketball player. She earned the extra minutes."
Halftime did little to slow the Ducks' momentum as Alleyne and Bando contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively, in the third quarter. It was also the best scoring quarter for the Spartans as they scored 24 points, however that effort wasn't good enough as Oregon led by almost 30 throughout the entire final quarter. The victory moved UO to 6-0 on the season, its best start since the 2011-12 season.
NOTABLE: Alleyne's double-double streak started on Jan. 11, 2015 with 16 points and 18 rebounds against Oregon State…Tonight was Alleyne's first 20-20 game since scoring 30 points and grabbing 25 rebounds in a win over UCLA on Jan. 31, 2015…Alleyne has led the Ducks in rebounding in a whopping 65 straight games dating back to her sophomore season…The Ducks shot 61.4 percent in the game, it's best of the season but shy of the UO record of 69.6 (32-of-46), set against DePaul on Dec. 22, 1999.
UP NEXT: The Ducks will have four days off before resuming action when they host Utah Valley at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
