WACO, Texas – The No. 2 Oregon softball team run-ruled its first team of the Baylor Invitational on Friday afternoon as the Ducks pounded Abilene Christian 8-0.
How It Happened: Janie Takeda, last night's hero, led off with a double to left center for the Ducks and was driven home after a sacrifice bunt by Danica Mercado and sacrifice fly from Jenna Lilley.
Lilley got things going in the bottom of the third when she laced a double to left center. After Geri Ann Glasco was hit by a pitch, Gwen Svekis singled up the gut and scored Lilley. With runners on first and second, Jasmine Smithson-Willett roped a double to left center to plate a pair of runs. Pinch-hitting for Nikki Udria, Lauren Lindvall singled to right and scored the fourth UO run of the inning as the Ducks took the 5-0 lead.
The very next inning, Takeda led off with a single up the middle, setting the stage for Mercado's two-run bomb over left field. The Ducks would get one more run before the end of the inning to take the 8-0.
Cheyene Powell came in relief of Glasco in the fifth inning and pitched a 1-2-3 inning as UO run-ruled Abilene Christian 8-0.
Glasco finished the day pitching four innings while giving up just a hit and a strikeout.
Up Next: Oregon will wrap up its double header today against No. 25 Tulsa immediately after its game against Abilene Christian.
