FRESNO, Calif. – The Oregon women's lacrosse team returned to the win column on Monday afternoon with a 14-7 beating of Fresno State to split its first leg of the road trip.
How It Happened: Cambi Cukar was back to her usual self again, dishing out assists left and right as the freshman found Carly O'Connell cutting in the crease to put Oregon (7-2, 2-1) on the board first 1:31 into the game.
Fresno State quickly replied with a goal of their own less than a minute later on a goal from Nicole Ortlieb, but that was the closest the Bulldogs would get. UO soon pulled away to take a 7-2 lead into the break behind Olivia Pyne and Holly Johnson who had two goals apiece.
Hayley Milner picked up her second goal of the day when she fired in the first goal of the second half to put the Ducks on top, 8-2. The Bulldogs quickly responded with a goal of their own 16 seconds later.
The Ducks tacked on three more goals on the heels of Pyne's third hat-trick of the season to make it 11-3 with 21:09 left to play. Ortlieb would net her second goal of the day to make it 11-4 two minutes later, but Oregon would once again pound in another trio of goals capped off by Natalie Modly's at the 8:05 mark.
The Bulldogs turned in three more goals in the final five minutes of play, but it was too little, too late as Oregon went on to win 14-7.
