Scouting The Field
The Ducks will be tasked with trying to take down the No. 1 team in the country, Washington. The Huskies have already won five tournaments this year, and they have done so with the No. 1 player in the country – SooBin Kim – leaving the program in December to turn pro and join the LPGA Tour. UW still has three other players ranked in the top 50 in Ying Luo (23), Eimi Koga (31) and Jennifer Yang (37).
UNLV and Oregon are the next highest-ranked teams at No. 18 and 31, respectively, and UC Davis (36), Colorado (39), San Jose State (40) and Coastal Carolina (45) join the Ducks as other teams who are likely to make a splash.
The remainder of the field includes Gonzaga (47), UC Riverside (71), San Francisco (76), Indiana (80), BYU (84), Colorado State (103) and UC Irvine (149).
Last Time Out
Two weeks ago the Ducks fired the lowest score (7-under, 281) of the final round at the Westbrook Invitational, but their comeback effort fell just short and UO (10-under, 854) earned second place behind No. 14 Tennessee (13-under, 851).
Santoso earned second place with a three-day total of 211 (71-69-71), putting her at 5-under on the tournament. She led the field with 15 birdies and Ulep tied for second with 12 of her own.
Ulep tied for third with a 3-under 213 (72-72-69), Inglis recorded a top-10 finish with a 2-under 214 (71-73-70), Pranovia improved every round and tallied a 220 (76-73-71) and Isagawa fired a 222 (72-73-77).
Comfortable In The Bay
The last time the Ducks were in the Bay Area they won the Peg Barnard Invitational in Stanford, Calif., at the Stanford Golf Course. Last year Oregon won the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif., at the Almaden Golf and Country Club behind Santoso's medalist performance of 3-under 213 (73-72-68).
On A Roll
If UO was able to come away with a win on Tuesday or in any other tournament this spring, it would be the first time the Ducks have won two tournaments in a season since 2000 when they won the Colby Invitational (March 20-21) and then the Lady Aztec Invitational (March 27-28).
Top-100 Players
Both the Ducks' Inglis and Santoso entered Wednesday, March 4 in Golfstat.com's top 100 in the individual player rankings. Inglis, a junior from Eugene, comes in at No. 75 and Santoso, a sophomore from Sydney, Australia, is currently No. 95.
Ducks Scoring Well
UO has led the field in birdies in their past two tournaments. The Ducks tallied 30 tweeters at the Peg Barnard Invitational and then a season-high 50 at the Westbrook Invitational.
Eugene to Host 2016 NCAA Golf Championships
The 2016 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships will be played at Eugene Country Club next spring. The women's championships will be held from May 20-25 and the men's from May 27- June 1. This marks the first time Oregon will host both the men's and women's NCAA golf championships in the same year.
Conditions
Monday's forecast in Fairfax, Calif., calls for a high of 73 degrees under mostly sunny skies, and Tuesday will see a high of 68 with mostly cloudy conditions. Neither day expects winds to reach above 10 miles per hour.
