
Softball Sweeps Stanford for Third Straight Season

STANFORD, Calif. – Janie Takeda tied the program's career hits mark while Cheridan Hawkins was dominant in relief as the Ducks won, 6-3, on Monday night to sweep Stanford for the third straight year.
The Ducks improved to 38-5 (16-2 Pac-12) with their 10th straight win overall against Stanford. The Cardinal fell to 16-29 (1-14).
Scoring Summary: Oregon started the scoring early with a three-run first inning. Janelle Lindvall hit a two-run single with the bases loaded. Koral Costa singled in another before Stanford rallied back in the bottom half of the frame with three runs as well.
It remained a 3-3 tie until Takeda tied the UO career hits record on a RBI single up the middle in the fourth. On a 2-0 count, Takeda laced a single up the middle, her 288th career hit which matched Courtney Ceo's mark.
Oregon tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead. Despite being pulled from the circle in the third inning, Jasmine Smithson-Willett staying in the lineup and played left. It was a smart move by head coach Mike White, as Smithson-Willett hit her third career homer and first since joining the Ducks for her sophomore season. She crushed a solo shot high off the top of the camera deck in center. Jenna Lilley later singled and scored on a RBI single by Geri Ann Glasco.
In the Circle: Smithson-Willett started in the circle for the Ducks. The junior allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in 2.1 innings pitched. She struck out one batter. With a pair of runners on in the third and one out, the Ducks brought on Cheridan Hawkins in relief.
Hawkins was nearly perfect, allowing just one hit over the next 4.2 innings with nine strikeouts and no walks. She struck out six straight to start her appearance.
Record Book: Janie Takeda goes into Friday's showdown with the top-10 ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns tied for the UO career records in stolen bases (96) and hits (288).
She tied Courtney Ceo's hits record in the fourth while matching Sari-Jane Jenkins' stolen bases record yesterday.
