Ducks Use Five Homers to Bash Bears
05/03/15 | Softball
The Ducks improved to 43-5 (18-2 Pac-12) with their 13th straight win and clinched the series with the Golden Bears. Cal dropped to 35-15 (7-13) with the loss.
Oregon is now 16-5 against top-25 foes this season and has won 10 straight against ranked opponents.
Scoring Summary: Hailey Decker put the Ducks on the board in the first inning for the second straight game. The junior slugged a two-out, two-run blast to right center. Freshman Lauren Lindvall led off the second inning with a first-pitch homer to center to make it a 3-0 game before Nikki Udria slugged another home run, this time a two-run shot, in the second to make it a 5-0 lead.
Lindvall crushed the first pitch she saw to start the third inning for her second homer of the game as the Ducks continued to use the long ball to score on Saturday.
Geri Ann Glasco added to the home run total with a two-run blast to left in the fourth inning to make it an 8-0 game. Lindvall tallied another RBI on her third hit of the game, a single to right.
In the Circle: Geri Ann Glasco and Karissa Hovinga combined for a four-hit shutout of a Cal team hitting .336 on the season. Glasco started and earned the win, allowing just two hits in 3.1 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
After issuing back-to-back one-out walks in the fourth, Glasco was pulled for Hovinga who got the Ducks out of jam. Hovinga surrendered just two hits in 1.2 innings.
Glasco improved to 7-1 with the win. Over their last three appearances, Hovinga has a 2.62 ERA with eight strikeouts in 10.2 innings while Glasco has a 2.86 ERA with six strikeouts in 7.1 innings.
Fun Fact: The Ducks have won 23 of their last 25 conference series.
Pac-12 Standings: UCLA won again on Saturday against Arizona and remain one game back of the Ducks in the Pac-12 standings. Oregon is 18-2 while the Bruins are 17-3. The Ducks have the tiebreaker as they won the series with UCLA earlier this season.
Up Next: The Ducks go for the sweep on Sunday in a Pac-12 Networks televised game at noon. Less than 200 tickets remain for Senior Day as the Ducks honor the careers of Janie Takeda, Jamie Rae Sullivan, Sara Goodrum and Karissa Hovinga.
Alumni Day: The Ducks welcomed back more than 40 alumni for Saturday's game.
