Ulep Moves to Fourth in Second Round at Regionals

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ducks shaved off three strokes from their score yesterday and kept themselves in the hunt for an NCAA Championship berth after round two at Briggs Ranch GC with an even-par 288. For the second-straight day freshman Kelsey Ulep played like a seasoned veteran and led Oregon with a 3-under 69. Ulep is tied for fourth place at 6-under par (138, 69-69).
After two rounds, Oregon is 3-over par at 579. With Texas in sixth place a 5-under, UO will attempt to jump the Longhorns along with Texas Tech (1-under) and Arizona State (2-over) in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
Round Two Scores: Ulep was outstanding yet again, finishing with an unblemished card that was highlighted by a pair of birdies on the back side and one on the front. After taking advantage of the par-5's yesterday – she was 5-under in the first round to lead the field – she made a living on the par-4's today, recording all three of her birdies on such holes.
Cathleen Santoso showed improvement in round two and came up with the Ducks' second under-par score with a 1-under 71. The junior started off red hot with two birdies in the first four holes, and added two more on the front side to lead the team in birdies on the day with four.
Oregon's other two counting scores came from Caroline Inglis and Cassy Isagawa, who both shot 2-over 74's.
Inglis avoided any big numbers, but four bogeys throughout the day kept her from finishing with a score closer to or under par. Isagawa's round went in similar fashion, as the senior was steady with 14 pars, but three bogeys and just one birdie kept her from going low.
Marcella Pranovia appeared to be following suit with a 2-over day, but a triple bogey on the last hole kept the sophomore from that mark, leaving her with a 5-over 77. Up until that point, however, Pranovia showed massive strides (14 pars today) from yesterday's round.
Overall Positions: After Ulep and her T4th-place position, Santoso should have a shot at a top-25 finish tomorrow after closing day two tied for 38th place (145, 74-71). Isagawa is tied for 53rd (147, 73-74), Inglis is tied for 61st (149, 74-75) and Pranovia is tied for 86th (158, 81-77).
What It Will Take: The Ducks are second in the field in total pars (125) after two rounds, but it will take a significant amount of birdies tomorrow to make the three-team jump into sixth place. With eight teams going under par in round two, UO knows that the scores are out there to be made; they will just need a few more putts to drop.
Isagawa: The two-time All-American and three-time All-Pac-12 selection could potentially be playing her last round tomorrow morning at Briggs Ranch GC. The Ducks will do all they can to ensure that the program's career scoring average leader will have one more tournament to play in Bradenton, Fla.
Final Round: Oregon will tee off hole No. 1 tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. (CT) with players from Arizona State and Texas Tech in the third and final round.
