Post-Game Quotes: Oregon vs. Cal
01/07/16 | Men's Basketball
Dana Altman - Head Coach, Oregon
On Cal compared to Oregon State…
“Well that was a different team. We played hard. As disappointed as I was Sunday, I'm equally as proud tonight because we didn't play well offensively, but we kept competing. Our defense was better. That's a good basketball team, very talented, very well coached. Even though we didn't play well offensively, we had some good possessions because we kept fighting and the guys found a way.”
On the Pac-12…
“I think it's going to be very, very competitive. I think there are a lot of teams that are very close. I'm really impressed with Cal's talent.”
On Chris Boucher's offense…
“I thought Chris played really good. I got on him about his threes in the first half. He can hit that top of the key, but he doesn't take it much. We don't run anything for him. We set him in the corners. He's a good shooter from the corner but he wanted to prove to me that he could hit that one from the top.”
On the team's defense…
“We were playing the matchup and man, we were switching back and forth. I thought our activity was really good. With the exception of not taking away some of their tendencies, I thought our effort was really good.”
Tyler Dorsey, Freshman - Guard
On his late three-pointer...
"They had two screens, one for me and Dillon, but Casey found me with a great pass, and I just knocked it down."
On the physicality of the game...
"It was definitely a physical game. It had that intensity. You might not get a call. It was a dog fight. We're just glad we came out with the victory. We came out on defense and made stops."
On being encouraged at halftime...
"(Altman) told us the shots were going to fall - we just needed to worry about getting stops."
Chris Boucher – Senior, Forward
On bouncing back from Corvallis to get a win...
"(The loss) helped us get together more. It helped us realize that if we can work together, we can do anything. I feel like that is what we really need to win."
On his block...
"I think I really liked blocking that three. He was our main focus when it came to shooting the ball, so I think that just made him think about it before he shoots it."
On his offensive play...
"Coach always told me I could be a big player if I put my mind to it. I felt like if I couldn't shoot three, I should try to go and be aggressive."
Cuonzo Martin – Heach Coach, California
On what he said to the team after tonight's loss…
“Well, we had some key breakdowns late. They made three key three-pointers that I can remember. There were a couple of 50-50 loose balls that they won. They got those for the most part, then we had a couple of key breakdowns that kind of turned the game around. I think Jaylen (Brown) missed one, Tyrone (Wallace) missed two. That's part of the game. They missed free throws as well. I just think the key breakdowns cost us down the stretch.”
On the struggles from behind the arc tonight…
“I have to go back and watch film. I don't think anybody took a tough three where somebody was hanging all over us. We went 0-of-12 from three. That's part of the game. Any time (Jordan) Mathews shoots, I think it's going in, but I don't think there were any threes that were really tough or contested, off-balance threes.”
On his team's turnovers tonight…
“It's strange because normally when a team presses you that much, you turn it over in the backcourt. We just had bad turnovers. Sometimes trying to feed the post, handing the ball over, handling the ball. I've got to go back and watch each one. Again, it wasn't against the press. In the halfcourt, you've got to be able to execute, make plays, find the right guys and make the right decisions.”
