Season High Pushes Ducks Past Bobcats
03/13/16 | Acrobatics & Tumbling
EUGENE – For the second consecutive meet, Oregon set a new season high score on Saturday night to storm past Quinnipiac, 283.935-274.900, at Matthew Knight Arena.
How It Happened: No. 2 Oregon (5-1) posted wins in five of the six events on Saturday to knock off the fourth-ranked Bobcats.
In the compulsory event, the Ducks snagged victories in the acro, pyramid and tumbling heats to jump out to an early 38.40-36.25 lead. They built on the lead in acro, turning in heat scores of 9.60, 9.50 and 9.50 to win the event, 28.60-27.15.
Moving on to the pyramid, Oregon took the second heat, 9.85-9.60, but the Bobcats came up with wins in heats one and three to earn their only event win of the night, 29.30-29.05. The Ducks carried a 96.05-92.70 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, the Ducks edged the Bobcats in the toss. Oregon used scores of 9.65 in heats one and two to best Quinnipiac and notch a 28.90-28.70 triumph in the event.
The Ducks separated themselves from the Bobcats in the final two events, turning in season-high scores in both.
Oregon was consistent in tumbling, recording scores of 9.20 or better in all six heats. Taylor Galvin and Caroline Matos scored a 9.85 in the duo pass, before Krista Phillips, Blaire Wilson and Sydnee Walton added a 9.45 in the trio pass, both season bests.
More highs came down in the quad pass as Reagan Trussell, Nicole Sottiriou, Maddy Hite and Jordyn Fox posted a 9.20. Trussell later scored a 9.35 in the aerial pass. A 9.875 from Taylor Galvin in the 6 element and a 9.80 from Phillips in the open pass were enough to lead the Ducks to a season-high 57.525 in the event and a 57.525-54.700 win in the event.
After breaking 100 in the team event earlier this week against Adrian and King with a 100.07, the Ducks did it again on Saturday and one-upped themselves with a 101.46 to wrap up the victory.
Up Next: The Ducks will head back out on the road next weekend when they travel to Erie, Pa., for a tri-meet against Gannon and King on March 19 at 3 p.m.
