Ducks Belt Three Homers in Win
03/26/16 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. - Nikki Udria hit a pair of home runs while Geri Ann Glasco's two-run shot ended it in the sixth as the Ducks run-ruled Stanford, 11-2, on Friday night at Jane Sanders Stadium.
Oregon improves to 25-4 (5-0 Pac-12) with the win, the team's 17th straight win, one shy of the program record of 18 straight set in 2007.
Udria now has a team-high 10 home runs on the season. The junior hit eight total over her first two seasons with the Ducks.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Oregon scored twice in the first inning for the second straight night when Udria tripled in a run and later scored on on a sacrifice fly by Koral Costa.
Hailey Decker smacked a two-out single to center to score two more runs in the third to put Oregon ahead, 4-0.
Stanford pitcher Haley Snyder helped her own cause in the top of the fourth with a two-run homer to right. That would be all of the Stanford offense, however.
The Ducks made it an 8-2 lead with four more runs in the fifth inning. With two on and no outs, Alyssa Gillespie tallied a RBI single and another run scored after a fielding error on the play. That brought Udria, the No. 2 hitter in the lineup, to the plate where she connected on her first blast of the game, a two-run bomb to left. It was the first Oregon home run at new Jane Sanders Stadium.
Udria hit her second homer to right center in the sixth inning to put Oregon ahead, 9-2. After freshman pinch hitter April Utecht singled, Glasco ended the game with a towering two-run homer to center.
IN THE CIRCLE: Freshman pitcher Megan Kleist picked up the win after allowing two runs on three hits in five innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Glasco pitched a perfect sixth inning.
THE LONG BALL: After hitting three homers on Friday night, the Ducks have 54 on the season...This is the 10th time this season Oregon has tallied 10-or-more runs in a game.
QUOTABLE: Nikki Udria on hitting the first Oregon home run in the new stadium - "It's amazing. I'm honored and blessed to be able to be the first one. It was kind of a weird feeling, I didn't know whether to cry or to smile. I was really excited, and I'm glad that we got the win."
UP NEXT: Oregon will go for a second straight conference sweep and a 13th straight win over Stanford on Saturday with first pitch set for noon.
