LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Led by junior Sulman Raza, the Oregon men's golf team is in 13th after two days of competition at the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
How It Happened: The Ducks carded a 9-over 297 in Tuesday's second round at the par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club. USC leads at 4-under after carding an 8-under 280 on Tuesday. The Trojans are the only team in the 15-team field under par, followed by Arizona State at 3-over, and Texas and Florida tied at 5-over.
Sulman Raza turned in a strong second-round effort on Tuesday, firing a 3-under 69 to wind down the day in a tie for 21st. Raza converted six birdies to three bogeys on moving day to recover from a 5-over 77 on Monday.
Teeing off on the 10th hole, senior Zach Foushee ran into some trouble on the 15th, 16th and 17th, dropping two bogeys and a double over the stretch to get to the turn at 4-over. The senior birdied two over the final nine to finish the day at 6-over for the event and tied for 44th.
Sophomore Aaron Wise sits in 48th after turning in a 4-over 76 in his second round to follow up his 75 on Monday.
Brandon McIver carded a 6-over second round to drop to 11-over for the week and tie himself in 62nd. Freshman Edwin Yi's 77 on Tuesday has him in in 65th at 12-over heading into Wednesday's final round.
Notable: After a windy opening day to the Southern Highlands Collegiate in which no teams were able to card a subpar round, Tuesday's second round played slightly easier. After the 15 teams combined to fire a 74.99 average score Monday, Tuesday's average dropped to 74.08.
Up Next: The Ducks, paired with TCU and UCLA, will tee off from the 10th for the tournament's final round at 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday.
