03/08/16 | Men's Golf
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Oregon men's golf team finished off the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate tied for 13th overall on Monday at the par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club.
How It Happened: The Ducks carded a 16-over 304 in Monday's first round. Florida leads the stacked field after firing a 2-over 290. Arizona State sits a stroke back from the Gators in second, while SMU and USC are in a tie for third at 4-over.
Zach Foushee sits in a tie for 34th overall after turning in a 3-over 75 for his first round. After teeing off on the 10th hole, the senior shot a 4-over 40 over his first nine holes. The front nine was easier on Foushee, as he sank birdies on the first, fifth and six holes to get to 1-over for the day; however, he finished the round with a pair of bogeys on the par-3 eighth and par-5 ninth to bump his score back to 3-over.
Aaron Wise also fired a 75 in his first round to tie with Foushee as the low Duck. Although Wise was able to finish his round with a birdie on the ninth hole, a triple bogey on the par-3 12th and a double on the par-3 eighth doomed Wise to a 3-over start to the event.
Brandon McIver and Sulman Raza each carded a 5-over 77 over their first 18 to tie themselves in 56th going into Tuesday's second round. Edwin Yi shot a 7-over 79 to tie for 70th after one round of play.
Notable: The par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club course played tough for the entire field of the 41st Southern Highlands Collegiate. Thanks to some rough conditions, including high winds, none of the field's 15 teams managed to card a subpar round on Monday, and only nine of the 78 participants find themselves under par after 18 holes of play. At 2-over, Florida leads the pack, while UNLV's Taylor Montgomery, Arizona State's Jon Rahm and Florida's Sam Horsfield are the individual leaders at 3-under.
Up Next: Paired with TCU and UCLA, the Ducks will tee off for the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate at 9:10 a.m.
