EAST LANSING, Mich. – Jordan Zimmerman hit a solo home run in the 10th inning to hand Oregon a 3-2 loss at Michigan State on Friday at McLane Baseball Stadium.

How it happened: Michigan State (19-4) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, thanks to some help from the Ducks' defense. Oregon's Matt Kroon committed an error to lead off the inning and then Travis Moniot couldn't complete the exchange on a double play ball that would have ended the inning. Taylor Grace made Oregon (11-11) pay with a two-out RBI. The Ducks rallied to tie it in the top of the sixth. A.J. Balta broke up MSU starter Ca Vieaux's perfect game with a single and came around to score on a base hit by Austin Grebeck. After the Spartans regained the lead, the Ducks rallied again to tie it in the ninth. Jake Bennett picked up the clutch RBI with a base hit up the middle scoring Nick Catalano, who led off the inning with a pinch hit walk.

Box score notes: Oregon starter Cole Irvin allowed two runs (one earned) over eight innings, while striking out two … Michigan State starter Cam Vieaux allowed just two runs on three hits in eight-plus innings. Vieaux retired the first 15 batters he faced, including 10 on strike outs. He finished with a season-high 11 Ks … Brac Warren (0-1) took the loss allowing the solo home run in the 10th … He allowed a run on a hit with a walk and a strike out … Oregon had five different hitters end with one hit … Oregon finished with 14 strikeouts, including two hitter who struck out three times and one who finished with two Ks … The Ducks dropped to 0-3 in extra-inning games.

On deck: The Ducks continue their four-game road trip on Saturday when they meet Michigan State in game two of the three-game series. Matt Krook (1-1, 4.39) will pitch for Oregon, while Michigan State sends Ethan Landon (2-1, 2.12) to the mound.
