Ducks Win 12th Straight vs. OSU
04/11/16 | Softball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon's senior class improved to 12-0 in their careers against Oregon State as the Ducks swept the Beavers for the fourth straight year with a 9-0, run-rule, win on Sunday afternoon.
The Ducks (32-6, 10-2) have outscored Oregon State, 120-24, during the 12-game winning streak.
Cheridan Hawkins, who picked up the win on Sunday, improved to 8-0 in her career against the Beavers. She has allowed just five earned runs over 38.1 career innings (0.91 ERA) against OSU with 48 strikeouts
HOW IT HAPPENED: Oregon brought out the big bats to sweep the Beavers. The Ducks smashed three homers to back a shutout effort by Hawkins.
Koral Costa smoked a solo shot to left center in the first inning to put Oregon up, 1-0. One inning later, Janelle Lindvall got in on the fun with a three-run homer to left in the second to put the Ducks up 4-0.
“I've kind of been struggling at the plate and I needed to get up there and just take some hacks,” Lindvall said. “My teammates have always been great, giving me feedback, and everyone was just like 'swing the bat man'.”
Costa's solo shot was more than enough for Hawkins, as the lefty was locked in, but the Ducks added five more runs, all with two outs, in the fourth inning.
Alyssa Gillespie plated a run with a RBI single and she came home one at-bat later on Nikki Udria's RBI single. An error by the right fielder on the play allowed Udria to scoot all the way to third. Another error on a Costa grounder allowed her to reach and score Udria on the play. That brought up Geri Ann Glasco, who smashed a two-run homer to center.
Oregon State finished with no runs on three hits and three errors while the Ducks plated nine runs on eight hits with no errors. Hawkins allowed no runs on three hits in five innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
HAWKINS' GREAT WEEKEND: Cheridan Hawkins picked up two wins and a save in the three-game series against Oregon State. The lefty allowed just one unearned run on nine hits and one walk in 13 innings against the Beavers with 17 strikeouts.
“Cheridan looked good,” the catcher Lindvall added. “She was throwing multiple pitches and the ball was moving, as usual. I'd like to see her continue doing what she's doing.”
A GRAND TIME: With four more strikeouts in Saturday's win, Cheridan Hawkins now has 997 strikeouts in her four-year career.
UP NEXT: The Ducks have next weekend off before returning to action at Arizona State.
