TEMPE, Ariz. – Janelle Lindvall drove in four runs, including a three-run homer in the seventh, and the No. 5 ranked Ducks defeated No. 25 Arizona State, 10-4, on Friday night in the first game of a three-game set at Farrington Stadium.
The Ducks improved to 33-6 (11-2 Pac-12) with the win, their fourth straight over Arizona State, which matches the longest winning streak against the Sun Devils in program history.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Arizona State jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer in the second inning but Oregon quickly matched, with Nikki Udria belting her team-leading 12th home run of the season, a two-run blast to center.
After a scoreless fourth, the Ducks broke out for five runs in the fifth. Udria drove in another run on a RBI single with another run scoring on an error on the play. Later in the frame, Koral Costa plated a run with a RBI double and she later scored on a beautiful bunt single from slugger Lindvall.
Arizona State picked up two more runs via the long ball in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 7-4 lead for the Ducks.
Oregon was looking for some insurance runs in the seventh with two runners on base and Lindvall delivered, mashing a three-run homer to right center to put the Ducks up, 10-4.
CLUTCH MOMENT: Geri Ann Glasco came on to pitch for the Ducks in the fourth inning after the bases were loaded with no outs. The senior got a force out at home for the first out of the frame. Glasco then picked up a big strikeout for the second out before a grounder ended the threat.
BOX SCORE BLAST: Udria drove in three runs on a 3-for-4 night at the plate…Jenna Lilley went 2-for-3 and Koral went 2-for-4…Oregon used three pitchers, with Cheridan Hawkins and Glasco each giving up two-run homers and Megan Kleist tossing three scoreless inning to end the game for her first career save.
RECORDS WATCH: After her four RBI night, Janelle Lindvall has 177 RBIs in her career, just three away from matching Kailee Cuico's UO career record of 180.
A GRAND TIME: Cheridan Hawkins did not record a strikeout in her three innings of work, leaving her at 997 career strikeouts. She is looking to be the first Pac-12 pitcher to reach 1,000 strikeouts since ASU's Dallas Escobedo did it in 2014.
UP NEXT: The Ducks meet ASU on Saturday at 7 PM in a Pac-12 Networks televised game.
