
Ducks Sweep Arizona

EUGENE, Ore. – The 39th-ranked Oregon men's tennis team got back on track, sweeping Arizona 4-0 Friday afternoon at the outdoor tennis courts. The Ducks are now 14-4 on the year and 1-2 in the Pac-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED: For the 12th straight match, UO (14-4, 1-2) took the doubles point. Cormac Clissold -and Thomas Laurent extended their winning streak to 11 matches as the duo won at No. 3 over Jason Jaruvang and Shoki Kasahara. After dropping the first game, Clissold/Laurent won five straight to lead 5-1 in the match. The Wildcat duo was able to grab a game, but the Ducks closed it out to win 6-2.
Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno then clinched the point when they won at No. 1 over Will Kneale and Oliver Plaskett. The Oregon pair, ranked No. 20 by the ITA, was down 4-3 when they won three straight games to come back and win 6-4.
Up 1-0 in the match, Amos then put the Ducks up 2-0 with his singles win at No. 4 over Trent Botha. Amos jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set en route to taking it 6-1. Botha was able to take a brief 2-1 lead in the second set before Amos won the next five games to win it 6-2.
Thomas Laurent put Oregon up 3-0 with his victory at No. 3 over Jason Jaruvang. Laurent led 3-0 in the first set and eventually took it 6-2. He then easily took the second set 6-2 to move to 13-5 on the season.
Ethan Young-Smith clinched the match as he won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 over Oliver Plaskett. Holding a narrow 3-2 advantage in the first set, Young-Smith won the next three games to take it 6-3. In the second set, he jumped out to a 3-0 lead and took it 6-1 to seal the win.
UP NEXT: The Ducks will close out their home schedule on Sunday at 12 p.m. when they host Utah on the outdoor tennis courts.
