UCLA holds off Oregon to win series

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – UCLA held Oregon to just four hits en route to winning game two of the series 4-2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday night. The Bruins locked up the series win with the victory.
How it happened: UCLA drew first blood with a run in the bottom of the third. Luke Persico gave the Bruins the lead with a two-out single that scored Daniel Rosica, who led off the inning with a single. The Bruins added a run in the fourth with a little help from Cole Irvin. The Ducks' starter sandwiched a single with two hit batters before walking in the run for a 2-0 Bruins' lead. UCLA added a run in the sixth with a little help from the Ducks. Irvin issued a two out walk to Rosica, who stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and the scored when Tim Susnara threw the ball into left field trying to get Rosica at third. The Ducks cut the lead to a run in the top of the eighth. Travis Moniot walked to lead off the inning before a throwing error by Persico at third on an Austin Grebeck ground ball put runners at second and third. A.J. Balta picked up a pair of RBI on a double to left field. UCLA responded in the bottom of the inning. Trent Chatterton led off with a single and eventually scored on a Brac Warren wild pitch.
Box score notes: Irvin (3-4) allowed three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings pitched, while walking three and hitting three Bruins' batters … Grant Dyer, who entered the game with a 6.50 ERA, shut down the Ducks over seven innings allowing no runs on just two hits with two walks and a four strikeouts … Dyer moved to 2-2 with the win.
On deck: The Ducks and Bruins will wrap up their series Saturday at 1 p.m. Sophomore left-hander David Peterson (3-2, 1.59) will take the mound for the Ducks, while junior righty freshman Kyle Molnar (2-4, 4.09) will be on the mound for the Bruins.
