Bruins Complete Sweep of Ducks

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – UCLA batted around twice and held Oregon to just one run on five hits as the Bruins beat the Ducks, 13-1, to complete the three-game sweep at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday.
How It Happened: For the second time in the series, UCLA (19-18, 9-9 Pac-12) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Third baseman Luke Persico opened the scoring with a two-run home run off starter David Peterson (3-3), and the Bruins followed with a walk, two hits and a RBI fielder's choice to complete the four-run inning, sending 10 men to the plate.
Peterson settled down to keep the Bruins scoreless over the next three innings, but UCLA exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. UCLA's six runs came on four hits, three walks and a hit batter, and forced Peterson out of the game after allowing seven runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings. UCLA continued its hot hitting against the Oregon bullpen, scoring three more runs in the sixth to push its lead to 13-0.
UCLA starter Kyle Molnar (3-4) held the Ducks scoreless over seven innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five. The Ducks hit the ball hard for most of the day, but couldn't seem to get anything to drop to get a rally going. Oregon (17-16, 7-8 Pac-12) was kept off the board until the ninth inning, when Steven Packard scored Kyle Kasser with a base hit to center.
Notable: Closer Stephen Nogosek made his only appearance of the series, throwing a perfect eighth inning and lowering his ERA to 1.16 … Parker Kelly threw a scoreless seventh inning … Packard's ninth-inning RBI was his 26th of the season, good for second on the team.
On Deck: The Ducks will return home to host Oregon State for the second of five Civil War matchups this season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Oregon will then welcome Washington State to PK Park for a three-game conference series Friday to Sunday.
