The Oregon women's basketball team will play four power conference schools in non-conference play.
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon women's basketball team will play four power conference schools during its 2016-17 non-conference slate, head coach Kelly Graves announced Wednesday.
"This schedule will be great for our fans and a great test for us before opening conference play," Graves said. "The Pac-12 is the best conference in the nation and we need to play high quality opponents to prepare for it. Facing perennial top-25 programs like Michigan State and Mississippi State fits the bill."
The Ducks will play Michigan State, Mississippi State, Clemson and Ole Miss in addition to eight other teams in non-conference action. Mississippi State defeated Michigan State, 74-72, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago before the Bulldogs lost to eventual national champion UConn in the Sweet 16. Hawai'i and Idaho also advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
In addition to the power conference games, another highlight of the schedule will be a Moda Center doubleheader with the men's basketball team on Dec. 17. The Oregon women's team will face Portland State at the home of the Portland Trail Blazers while the men's team will meet UNLV.
Out of 12 total non-conference games, the Ducks will play six home games, three neutral site games and three road games. In addition to the game at the Moda Center, the Ducks will play two more neutral site games in Honolulu at the Raibow Wahine Classic. Oregon will also play a pair of exhibition games - against Northwest Christian and Vanguard.
Oregon went 24-11 last season in Graves' second year at the helm, just one win shy of the program record. The Ducks lost in the semifinals of the WNIT, rallying after losing All-American forward Jillian Alleyne in the final week of the regular season.
