Ducks Travel to Texas for Matches Against Baylor, TCU

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team continues their road matches this weekend with a trip to Texas to face the Baylor Bears on Saturday, and the TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Ducks (3-2) and Bears (2-0) will go head to head at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center at 11:00 a.m. PT.
Sunday's action will also begin at 11:00 a.m. at TCU's (3-1) Â Bayard Friedman Tennis Center.

The Opponents: In their all-time series, Baylor leads Oregon, 2-0, claiming a 4-2 victory against the then-ranked No. 51 Ducks on Feb. 5, 2016. This is only the second time in program history the Ducks have made a trip to Fort Worth – the first being April 14, 2001. TCU came away with a 4-3 victory on the Bernard J. 'Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts.
The Bears went 2-0 last weekend at home against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros, 4-0, and the McNeese State Cowgirls, 4-0.
The Horned Frogs went 1-1 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Stillwater, Okla., besting Wichita State 4-0 and falling to No. 5 Oklahoma State, 4-0.
Last Time Out: Last weekend, the Ducks split the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in North Carolina with a 4-0 loss to No. 2 UNC and 4-2 victory against Columbia.
Against UNC, three Ducks faced opponents that are ranked within the top 10 nationally. In doubles, the only ranked duo for UNC, No. 46 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham was defeated by Tobita and Kahfiani - their first duos match of the season as partners.
In doubles, senior Marlou Kluiving and freshman Julia Eshet were defeated by Chloe Ouellet-Pizer and Rachel James-Baker, 6-2. Tobita and Kahfiani took down Aney and Graham in a hard-fought battle, 6-3. The deciding factor of the doubles point came down to court one, where Tar Heels' pair Hayley Carter and Sara Daavettile answered with a 6-3 victory over sophomore Shweta Sangwan and junior Nia Rose.
In singles, the Tar Heels claimed the first set on all six courts, but the Ducks wouldn't go down without a gritty effort.
Ranked No. 3, Daavettila of UNC defeated Rose 6-0, 6-1 for the first singles victory for the Tar Heels of the afternoon. On court four, Graham, ranked No. 44, took down Eshet, 6-2, 6-2. No. 9 Aney solidified the UNC victory with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over Tobita. Sangwan, Kahfiani and Kluiving's matches went unfinished.
Against Columbia, the Lions came out strong and claimed two matches to solidify the doubles point. Columbia's duo of Adi Milstein and Alexandra Solovyez defeated Sangwan and Rose, 6-4. With a final of 6-2, Lions Rima Asatrian and Andrea Kevakian were victorious against Tobita and Kahfiani. The Ducks were able to get one doubles win with the 6-2 result from Kluiving and Eshet over Ali Pollack and Renee Ren.
In singles, Rose was taken down by Solovyez, 6-3, 6-1, giving the Lions an early 2-0 lead. Tobita went into a tiebreaker in the first set 7-6 (8-6) and took the second set with a 6-1 win. Kluiving also moved the Ducks' momentum with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hu of Columbia. In a 7-5 win in the first set and 6-3 victory in the second, Kahfiani defeated Milstein. Oregon's Sangwan defeated Asatrian in two sets, 6-2, 6-3, to solidify the final 4-2 Ducks' win. Eshet's match against Kevakian was at 4-6, 7-5, but ultimately went unfinished.
Ducks in the Rankings:Â Oregon has two players within the top 20 on the Oracle/ITA Division I Northwest Regional rankings - Eshet is ranked as No. 14 and Tobita is No. 20.
