Get to know freshman outfielder Haley Cruse
As the 2017 softball season starts, get to know the newcomers with a series of Q&As! First up is Haley Cruse, an outfielder from San Diego, Calif.Â
Cruse was a four-time first team all-Avocado East League choice and hit .487 as as senior at Del Norte HS.Â

When did you start playing softball?
When I was 5-years-old.
Â
What is your favorite softball memory?
Pitching two perfect games on my ninth birthday

Did anyone in your family play softball?
My older sister, Dana, played at UC Davis.
Â
Tell us more about your family.
I have a 16-year-old brother named Kevin who is very talented with computers and computer programming, and my 21-year-old sister Dana, who now coaches a local community team. My mom's name is Karen and my Dad's name is Kyle. Both went to law school at UC Davis.

Why did you choose Oregon?
The coaching staff is the best in the country, the facilities are top-notch, and the sports business program is one of the best in the world. Plus, I want to win a national championship.

Where do you like to hang out in Eugene?
Anywhere there is pizza!

Any thoughts on what your major will be?
Sports Business

What have your first couple of quarters in college been like?
Hard work but lots of fun. I've been staying on top of my school work while working to improve my game and making a ton of friends.

What is it like being on the team?
We have a great team dynamic and it feels like a second family

Do you have a mentor on the team?
Danica Mercado

What are you most excited about this year?
We have a lot of young talent and I am excited to see what we are capable of

Why did you choose your jersey number?
Caitlyn Lowe wore it and she was my favorite player

What are some of your other hobbies outside of softball?
Reading, dancing (poorly), shower-singing

What is a goal you have for your college career?
Win a national championship.

What is a goal you have for after graduation?
I would love to work for Nike

I love dogs and I eat about three-times the amount of the average human being
