
Ducks Fall Late at No. 23 Arizona State

Maite Cazorla tallied 17 points but the Ducks lost, 68-63, at No. 23 ranked Arizona State.
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Oregon women's basketball team took another top-25 team to the brink but fell, 68-63, at No. 23 Arizona State on Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Ducks (15-9, 5-7 Pac-12) are now sixth in the Pac-12 standings after playing a top-25 team for the ninth time this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After trailing early in the game, Maite Cazorla hit a three with three minutes left in the first to give the Ducks their first lead of the game, 15-14. Cazorla scored late in the quarter to make it a 19-19 tie going into the second.
Cazorla kept on scoring, with three straight points to start the second quarter to put the Ducks up, 21-19. Oti Gildon then took over, with six points in the second quarter, including a layup with 2:09 left to make it a 30-30 tie. ASU went into the break on a 7-2 run, however, and owned a 37-32 lead at halftime. Cazorla had a game-high 14 points at halftime on 6-of-8 shooting as she found lanes to attack the basket against the Sun Devils.
Oregon started the third on a 5-0 run to tie it up, 37-37, with 7:10 left in the quarter. Oregon took a 44-42 lead with 4:39 remaining in the third on a Jacinta Vandenberg jumper. Sabrina Ionescu scored 10 points for the Ducks in the third as Oregon trailed, 52-51, going to the fourth.
Morgan Yaeger scored a pair of buckets to start the fourth to put the Ducks up, 55-54, with 7:06 left in the game but ASU responded with seven unanswered to take a 61-55 lead with 3:45 on the clock. Ruthy Hebard grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to make it 61-57 with 1:36 left but a big three-pointer for ASU late in the shot clock to put the Ducks down, 64-57 with under a minute to play. The Sun Devils hit free throws in the final minute to hold on to the lead.
STAT SHEET: Maite Cazorla finished with a team-high 17 points plus five assists while Sabrina Ionescu tallied 16 points to go with five rebounds and two assists. Morgan Yaeger came off the bench to score 11 points, her most in a game this season.
