Ducks Fall Short to TCU in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Oregon women's tennis team fell to the TCU Horned Frogs 4-1 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Ducks are now 3-4 to begin the 2017 campaign.
"Two tough battles for the Ducks this weekend," head coach Alison Silverio said. "Credit to Baylor and TCU for finishing better in critical moments. I'm excited for our team to be in these positions again, as I am confident we will break through. Discipline with our mindset and consistency with practice day in and out will be imperative moving forward."
How It Happened: In doubles, TCU earned the early doubles point with a win by No. 16 duo Donika Bashota and Olaya Garrido-Rivas against sophomore Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobita 6-3, while Horned Frogs Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner defeated junior Nia Rose and sophomore Daniela Nasser, 6-0. With two wins notches, freshman Julia Eshet and senior Marlou Kluiving's match against Alexis Pereira and Aleksandra Zenovka went unfinished.
In singles No. 75 Arantekin defeated Rose in two sets, 6-2, 7-5. Kluiving earned to lone Ducks' victory in singles with a two-set 6-4, 6-4 takedown of Wegner. With the score at 2-1, TCU, the Ducks showed resilient effort and Sangwan battled and forced extra points, ultimately falling 6-3, 7-5. Garrido-Rivas solidified the TCU victory with a three set win against Nasser, 6-7(5-7), 6-2, 6-1. Tobita, whose match against Zenovka was at 6-4, 3-6, 3-4, went unfinished. Eshet and No. 115 Norris also didn't finish, they were locked at 6-1, 2-6, 3-4.
Noteables: Kluiving and Eshet are the Ducks' most winningest pair in doubles this year and have a record of 14-3 overall after a win yesterday against Baylor. Kluiving is also the top singles player this season at 12-2 overall. The Horned Frogs own the all-time series record against the Ducks at 2-0.
