Ducks' offense dominates in win over Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – Oregon used a nine-run third inning to come from behind and beat California 13-2 at Evans Diamond on Saturday night. The nine-run inning matched the most runs the Ducks have scored in an inning since the return of baseball before the 2009 season.
How it Happened: Cal (8-9, 0-2 Pac-12) got out to the early lead scoring two runs off Ducks' starter Matt Mercer in the first. After a one-out double, Andrew Vaughn hit a two-run homer over the right field wall to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
Oregon (13-4, 2-0 Pac-12) rallied in the top of the third inning. After a pair of walks and a Jake Bennett base hit loaded the bases, Gabe Matthews picked up a pair of RBI on a high chopper to second baseman Anthony Walters whose throw pulled the shortstop off the bag as the Bears attempted to turn a double play. The relay to first was late. Daniel Patzlaff and Morgan McCullough, who never broke stride rounding third, scored on the play to tie the game.
A.J. Balta, Matthew Dyer and Tim Susnara added RBI singles, before Spencer Steer drove in a run with a ground ball that the shortstop misplayed. One batter later, Kasser executed a perfect drag bunt to drive in a run to make it 7-2. After an infield hit by McCullough, Bennett picked up two more RBI with a single to give Oregon a seven-run lead.
The Ducks added a run in the fourth inning on a Steer two-out RBI triple scoring Susnara from second. The Ducks' catcher reached when he was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch. Oregon tacked on three runs in the eighth inning.
