PORTLAND, Ore. – Five Oregon pitchers combined on a three-hitter as Oregon held off Portland 1-0 at Joe Etzel Field on Tuesday night.
How it Happened: Isaiah Carranza (1-0) pitched five innings in his second start of the season allowing just one hit and a walk while striking out a career-best four in the win. Kenyon Yovan picked up his Pac-12 Conference leading ninth save. Parker Kelly, Cooper Stiles and Connor Zwetsch all threw a scoreless inning as the five Ducks' pitchers combined to fan 10 Pilots.
Oregon (16-6) got all the offense it would need in the third inning against the Pilots (4-20). In just his third start of the season, junior Taylor Travess put the Ducks on top in the top of the third inning with a RBI single to score Tim Susnara, who started the inning with a double.
Inside the box score: Travess reached base twice with a third inning single and a sixth inning walk … Stiles made his 55th career appearance, just two shy of cracking the school's all-time top 10 … Morgan McCullough made his first start of the season at shortstop after starting the first 21 games at second base … Carson Breshears started at second base, his first start of the season and 26th career start … The shutout was the sixth of the season for Oregon, and the fourth 1-0 win of the year.
On Deck: Oregon continues its road trip in Salt Lake City where the Ducks will play a three-game Pac-12 Conference series against Utah starting on Thursday. David Peterson (5-1) will get the start for the Ducks, while Josh Lapiana (1-3) takes the mound for Utah at 6 p.m. (PT). All three Utah games will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
