
Ducks Drop Tight Match in Windy Conditions

SALEM, Ore. - The Oregon beach volleyball team played another tight match with Portland on Sunday morning, but was unable to come out on top in a 3-2 loss at Chemeketa College in Salem.
How it Happened: Playing on a cold day with a lot of heavy wind, Oregon (0-2) came away with two points with wins from its No. 3 and No. 5 pairs. Sumeet Gill and Marine Hall-Poirier got the Ducks on the board with a three-set win at the fifth spot, 21-18, 14-21, 15-9. Willow Johnson and Maddy Silberger-Franek evened the match at 2-2 later on at the No. 3 spot, winning in a three-set battle, 21-17, 21-23, 15-6.
The Pilots (2-0) claimed wins on courts two and four to send the match to the top court tied, 2-2. Sophomores Lindsey Vander Weide and Lauren Page were edged out on No. 2 by Portland's Hannah Troutman and Katie Barker, 16-21, 21-19, 15-12. The sister duo of Megan Lonhart and Mary Lonhart for the Ducks was edged out in two sets on No. 4, 21-10, 21-7.
With the match on the line, the Ducks' No. 1 pair of Taylor Agost and Brooke Van Sickle faced off with Portland's Tami Stephens and Cali Thompson. After Stephens and Thompson came out with a 21-16 in the first set, Agost and Van Sickle battled in a back-and-forth second set before ultimately falling, 30-28.
Up Next: The Ducks will have quite a bit of time before their next scheduled dual match on April 7 against Sacramento State in Boise, Idaho.
