Ducks downed in finale at No. 7 Arizona

How it Happened: Arizona (26-9, 9-6 Pac-12) jumped on Oregon starter Isaiah Carranza (2-1) from the get-go, scoring four runs on six hits in the first inning. JJ Matijevic and Mitchell Morimoto each had RBI singles as the Wildcats started off the inning with five straight singles. After a foul out, Cesar Salazar drove in two more with a single to center to extend the lead to 4-0.
Daniel Patzlaff drove in the Ducks' first run of the game with an RBI single in the second inning to score Tim Susnara, who reached with a double.
The Wildcats continued their onslaught in the second inning, scoring four more runs on five hits to chase Carranza. Nick Quintana provided the big hit in the inning with a two-run home run off Cooper Stiles to break the game open.
Arizona added single runs in the fourth and fifth inning and two more in the sixth to stretch the lead to 12-1.
The Ducks (23-10, 6-6 Pac-12) put up three runs in the seventh inning to cut the Arizona lead to 12-4. Susnara smashed a two-run shot to right after Matthew Dyer led off with a single for his team-leading fourth home run of the year. Kyle Kasser followed later in the inning with a two-out RBI double to plate Ryne Nelson who singled for his first career base hit.
The Wildcats plated six runs on six hits in the seventh while batting around to cap off the rout.
Box Score Notes: Susnara finished the weekend hitting .636 (7-for-11) with three RBI, two doubles, a home run and three runs scored … Kasser turned in his team-leading 13th multi-hit game with a 3-for-4 day with a double and an RBI … Dyer went 3-for-4 with a run scored to complete a 6-for-13 weekend … Nico Tellache pitched a scoreless eighth inning and was the only Oregon pitcher to not give up a run … The Ducks allowed a school-record 23 hits.
On Deck: The Ducks will travel to take on Portland on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before returning home on Friday to open a three-game conference series with Stanford.
